Hi chromodame,

I think you more than make up for that with your 1 year observership in Peds.. Its shows you are commited and your step 2 scores are amazing!! Keep thinking positive and Good luck with your CS preparations .

Hey geo, I just bought FA for the match, and "the successful match". I have no one to guide me in the process, except for the wonderful forum, and the books have been super helpful to me! Goodluck.

Things are going kinda ok I guess..Currently working on my personal statement.

I'm having some confusion on whether or not to waive rights to my LOR... Does it take longer for LOR's to be uploaded if its done by the author itself?

Also does it take longer than usual for LOR's to be uploaded to Eras if I wait till early September?

Goodluck! I would suggest, getting the ERAS token, and start working on your application. Look up programs and start adding it to my EARS. I have been working just on my application for so long. u will write and then rewrite it...and then check for any mistake multiple times...hope it helps

I am slacking on my PS...still doing a lot of brain storming in my head. I have been promised 4 LOR's but none still uploaded to post office
it takes 2 weeks to upload thru LOR portal...not sure if it takes longer in september...
oh and yeah if u r sure they liked u, then go ahead and waive your right!

Default Pediatric match 2014..

I am going for this year's pediatric match. Please let me know what you guys think of my credentials:

Step 1 228
Step 2 235
Step 3 Not taken yet...financial constraints..likely will not take
USCE: 3 months of hands on in peds cardio, peds GI and peds pulmo..4 strong US LORS 1 very strong LOR from home school from an American trained pediatrician
Pubs: 4 but none in peds. 1 great paper in peds underway
YOG: 2012
IMG: will require J1

Will apply to around 70 to 80 programs.

I know things dont look good but I know I can present myself much more convincingly during interviews than on paper...

Please let me know what you guys think about my chances. Any input would be appreciated...

Best of luck to everyone!

Its looking overwhelming to complete the application!! I was so scared of results that I did not even talk to my LOR writers. Hopefully will upload LORS before Sept 1. Started PS and that's the most challenging part breaking my head to get some good points, nothing so far!

Hello everyone, I am also applying for Pediatrics Residency Programs 2014.
My credentials are :
219/cs pass /225 /yog 2010 all first attempt. Planning for step 3 somewhere around December.
2 US LORs both hands-on, many from home country but will use best two.
No research No publications No contacts.
Will apply broadly.
What are my chances? ?
Any advice on how I can improve my CV ?

Thanks Dr_raw. I am in the same situation, thought of starting for Step 3 immediately after CK but, ERAS application process is exhausting. The time limit , so many docs from different sources for someone who left their med school long ago is really difficult.

@bam: goodluck with your step1 results! You can use contacts to find observerships or else you can google places near you and reach out to them...
Many places have paid observerships too...

hey dr_raw,

thanks for getting back to me. just one more question, i thought observerships don't qualify as USCE since they are not 'hands-on'?

hey bam,

you are correct. Observerships are not hands on. but it is still an experience. I have heard people doing "externships" through private organizations but I am not sure how they work. maybe someone who has done it can throw some light on it. The high end programs dont qualify observerships as USCE, but most still do. any experience is better than no experience.

@Katie22
Try applying to at least 100 programs, I know it's tough getting programs due to the attempts

Yes, 3 attempts
I will apply to IMG friendly programs. I didn't meet the requirements for applying to a lot of programs.
From the last yr stat, many states didn't have Img at all. Some states had some but less than 1-2%
So i will apply to the programs that i might have chance to get iv.

Still have some hope😅
And i will definitely let all you guys know how many iv I get.🙆

Hi katie,

Goodluck on the application!! I am sure people will see your perseverance.

In my opinion, try getting an observership at an IMG friendly peds program and give your best effort there by doing presentations, volunteering in any activity , helping residents.... without making it seem like you are trying too hard and just be yourself! That can be a BIG help to you and they would take take you despite your attempts as they will appreciate your qualities. No one is perfect and exams scores can't really depict the person you actually are..

I wish you all the very best

I'm in a bit of a fix here. My Lor Authors uploaded my letters early September (2nd or 3rd). The letters are still not available at the Postoffice. I finalized it and all that.. I'm started to get worried. I hate to apply on 15th with an incomplete application..

What did all of you do for the volunteer/ work description box in Eras? Did you explain in 1000 charecters?? One sentence?? A few Sentences? List your Duties/ responsibilies there??

I feel writing a big paragraph will just make them skip reading the whole thing altogether.. whats your opinion??

Hi everyone!
My credentials
step 1 228 (1)
Step 2 ck 249 (1)
Step 2 cs PASS (1)
ECFMG certified
Step 3 November 2013

YOG 2002 (makes me the grandma here)
5 year pediatric residency from Europe
1 year NICU level III in Europe
USCE 1 month observership

Given my ancient YOG my choice of programs is pretty small. I found about 30 and will apply to about 40 to give the universe a chance

I assume that the programs who have only downloaded the USMLE transcripts are looking for a quick way to filter out applicants before a full review of the remaining apps.

Apply now and add the LoR to the application later. Some programs close as early as Oct. 1st.

Hey Dr_raw ,
Help me out here.. my waived US LORs ( my strong ones) still haven't been uploaded to my post office. So, I haven't applied yet. I'm getting conflicting advice on whether or not to go ahead and apply with the 2 lor's I have in hand already.. What do you think??

Apply with an incomplete application or wait a few days and apply when complete??

Anyone with helpful advice please contribute.

Hi Geo

When did your LOR's get uploaded? I mean did your attendings tell you when they uploaded it? If you think it will get uploaded within this week, you can definitely wait! since most programs require 3 LOR's.

You already have 2 lor's....whenever one of them comes up upload at least the 3 and then you can always add on the 4th one later on!

"Dear Applicants,
If all of your LoRs are not available in the ERAS PostOffice**when you apply to programs you are still able to apply. After applying to programs, when LoRs become available in the ERAS PostOffice, you will be able to assign those LoRs to programs if you have not already reached your maximum of 4 LoRs to any given program.**To assign letters after you have applied to programs please follow these steps:
1. Go to the Programs tab
2. Under Frequently Accessed Links, click on the Programs applied to link**
3. Select the program you wish to assign additional LoRs
4. On the Document Assignment page, select LoRs you wish to assign
5. Click Select to save you assignments
Repeat these steps for each program where you wish to assign additional LoRs.
ERAS Staff"

This is what eras sent to everyone!

I know! I would have felt the same way as you do right now! gently and respectfully ask your letter writers when did they upload your letter and tell them you wanna know the date so you can decide whether to submit your application now or later!

goodluck dear! I am sure they will get uploaded soon!

Go to your User Control panel ( user CP) at the top left of the page. Edit your signature - add credentials as your signature. I just figured it out.

Hey Chromodame,

I took everyones advice and applied to programs with 3 Lor's. But I just checked and saw my Usmle transcript still hasn't been uploaded to the post office. How long does that usually take?

I was also one day late, hope it doesn't affect our chances. For transcript it took me around 2-3 hrs I guess.

Phew! Thats a relief. On the main website it says it takes 3-5 business days. I hope mine gets uploaded soon.

Yeh, same here. I hope it doesn't affect our chances much. After all this being set back just because of uploading delays seems unfair.

Lets keep our fingers crossed. Will keep posting any new developments here.

Default USMLE transcripts uploaded first!

Hi guys I wanted to ask you.. for those of you who got a rejection notification from any program, did those programs only downloaded your USMLE transcripts or did they download your entire documents??

I have noticed that most programs download the usmle transcripts first and after a few hours they download the rest of the docs. Cincinnati's Children's Hospital has downloaded only my transcripts this afternoon and not the rest of my app yet.. I just wanted to get a hint of whats going on.

Best of lucks to everyone!

step 1 230/step 2 (results released in sept 25th)/CS pass 1st attempt
2 month observerships in university hospitals - 3 LoRs
1 month private practice in US - 1 LoR
1 publication in peer reviewed journal
GC pending
YOG 2011

Guys I'm really nervous. I didn't pass step 1 on my first attempt and got a low score on 2nd attempt. Passed CK first attempt (225) and CS First attempt. YOG 2013 and all clinical experience in the US. Currently doing research in Canada (in my hometown).

I haven't gotten any IVs yet and I feel super disheartened. I also applied to psychiatry but Peds is my first love. One of my attending in Peds ID told me he was shocked when he found out about my step 1 scores and "I don't want this to be a cross that you bear for the rest of your life." But I feel like it's going to drag me down forever. I almost want to give up.

Edit: I'm almost embarrassed to admit this on here because you guys have such great scores. But I needed to vent somewhere.
