yea . especailly the ones who are actually doing a mass rejection targeted at IMG. its very obvious, Crilion, Georgetown Univ and now St Louis Univ Hosp are just sending out IMG rejection en bloc. Cos Dr Trickstar has great scores and only 2 years post grad....what could av been the reason for rejecting his application???

Goodness such great scores here. I have a pathetic 229. Parents want me to match in 2015, but I just started my first core rotationast week. Would love to get into GS. However with my score and being a Caribbean grad, I'm not sure if I can be considered as competitive.

I want to take a year off to do research and do a mission trip. I know that would help my CV greatly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No USCE! Need Visa. YOG is actually 2011, which I think counts as 3 years postgrad.

Interesting, I never applied to any of these (except for Carilion),
Did you guys research the program before applying?

Because many of them tell you straight away that they do not sponsor J1 or whatever else they do not do...

What else can I do to bolster my application to get into a good GS program at one of these university programs:

- Louisville
- Vandy
- Emory
- Beth Israel
- UF
- Mayo Clinic

My Step 1 score is a 229, and I'm an US citizen. Hoping to break a 260 on Step 2, which I'll be taking at the end of August.

most of these programs are non-IMG friendly so they wont take you no matter your score. My advice to you would be to accept any position at any place in GS - we as IMGs dont have the luxury to pick and choose, even if they give you a place in harlem. If i were you , i would instead of worrying about scores to get , i would start networking.

Hey Jacobs,
Instead of trolling on this thread, please concentrate on your CK performance, USCE and networking.
If you were an AMG, you would have had the luxury to pick and choose which program you want to go to.
I would like to go to Johns Hopkins or Mass General and nowhere else... All of us can dream, of course!

There are a lot of IMGs here who are trying to just scrape into any GS program, including Harlem (yeah Shake that) and are piling up on rejections.

So don't test our patience and frustration! The good words won't continue too long.

Hey, is anybody here aware of how to create these documents?
My software skills are rudimentary but I second Sadde. It would be a great idea.

Dont worry, we will all be fine. Just stay strong , and keep working hard. We have done whatever we could with our time. Its time to be proud of our progress and if its not enough, we make sure that next time will be enough.

I do not understand why I am still not added to the list.

Just so you know, my brother matched last year and I have lots of info to give. I have received one rejection so far (Univ of Chicago), and have applied to 59 programs.

But apparently, according to Saade, there are set conditions that we need to meet before being able to join. This is BS. This forum is designed to be for everyone, and Saade, you do not get to decide who goes on the list, even if you created it. I am creating my own one if that is the case.

PS: if you wonder why I only applied to 59 schools, is because I know exactly which takes IMG, and which doesn't.

Whoever wants the list, PM me

Not really sure why all other programs are sending IV already. What i assume is that programs are sorting out their categorical/AMG first, and keeps us for later on, which totaly makes sense.

I dont think any IMG (unless they have done 1 prelim or 2 prelim years of GS) have a chance to get categorical position directly.

Congrats guys for the IVs.
I only went back to tick prelim about a week or so after submitting the applications and after they have downloaded the application . Do u think the programs will see the new change I made or do I have to email the programs?

Question

Which do you think program director would prefer:

Student A: Average Step 1 score of mid-220s, but US citizen.

Student B: >250, but not a US citizen

I just see on the board that not being a US citizen, and people are worried. Why is that? Sorry for the stupid question. Sadde, I sent you a PM with my email address as well..

Default info

Hi
This is not meant to discourage anyone here but don't hold your breath for replies from these programs. Please note these programs will not review IMG applications (both prelim and categorical) if you don't meet these requirements.

Medical University of South Carolina: Require 1 year of clinical experience in US
Louisiana State University (Shreveport): Will not offer interview unless you did an away rotation there. They will offer elective rotations to IMGs in medical school. need to contact them well ahead of time (i would guess at least a year before you plan to apply for match)
UT Southwestern Medical School: Will only consider IMGs who are in final year of medical school or have graduated in the same year at the time of applying.

Default info-2

I would suggest marking these as rejections for anyone who hasn't heard from one of these programs.

Methodist Health System Dallas: All invites for current match sent out. will not be sending any more invites.
University of South Alabama: All invites for current match sent out. will not be sending any more invites.

Again this is not to discourage anyone here. Everyone is better off focusing their resources on the remaining programs on their applied to lists.

Don't get into hypothetical discussions here; all programs have differing priorities so it's a pretty useless thing to think about. It's true that in 'general' between 'equally qualified' candidates programs are 'likely' to prefer the one without visa issues. But it doesn't mean programs will start lowering their step scores criteria by 2-3 standard deviations.
Just focus on your application and the programs you have applied to. If you're not a US citizen/permanent resident there is little you can do about it right now.
This is unsolicited, but extremely well intended advice for all future applicants to competitive specialties - go find yourself an american spouse before you ever decide to apply for the match.

These two programs said all invites have been already sent, if you haven't already received an invite then you haven't been selected.

I appreciate your updates mousedoc. Are you getting this info for categorical programs or prelims? because prelim IV invites usually come late.

LSU shreveport is not longer offering elective rotations to IMG since july 2013, i contacted them back in june, and actually LSU went into bankrupcy, so the government had to sell it to a private institution, and the new management dont allow no more IMG/Outside student/Dr. And without a rotation there you will not be offer an internview. (i got an email said that from the program coordinator.
So i would advice not to waste your money there.

I'm sorry, but this smells an awful lot like BS. You received an invite for an interview from a program, but don't know the name of the program or where it is? That doesn't really make sense to me.
