Search Obtaining positions after the main match process

Hello everyone!!

I heard, from old fmgs, that when they applied, after the main match was done, they would call up different hospitals and find out if they have any openings in their specialty of interest, as sometimes there is a chance of people dropping out because of various reasons.

As everyone is aware, a lot of things have changed in the last few years regarding the match process. Is there any possibility for anyone to secure a position through this Avenue??

That was true decades ago. Now the story has changed.

The NRMP conducts (SOAP) which stands for Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program. Previously it was known as Scramble.

During SOAP, applicants who did not match and programs that did not fill completely in the main match get accepted and filled respectively.

Therefore, there will be very very few positions available after the end of SOAP, the number is so low that we can safely consider it "Zero" and there is no chance.
