Question Surgery Residency for IMG

Hi friends

Does anyone know what makes an IMG suitable for getting selected in surgery in US?
what scores are needed n what type of resume one will need?
How can one get externhip in US?

I have been told that it is quite impossible to get surgery or orthopedics in us for an IMG....is this the actual Scenario?

Nothing is impossible when it comes to residencies in the US.

A competitive residency just needs a perfect application, good contacts (not family or friends, but people you impress while working with during electives, research, or prelim), and a bit of luck.

Surgery isn't imposibble at all, it's very difficulty but doable. A lot usually start out with a pre-lim year and then match into a categorical program.

Orthopedics...hmm. Much more difficult than surgery! I know a couple of IMGs who matched into orthopedics, but it was mostly luck to be honest. It's usually being in the right place at the right time kind of thing. Where a slot opens up and they need an immediate substitue. This empty slot is filled up with someone they know and is working with them and already has a perfect application and ready to go.

surgery is not that competitive as it seems , my senior with 230s in both steps and 8 months of observership cum research matched into a prelim and based on how to work you can be continued next year . but again you need those 8 months or 1 year of research to make contacts and get through .

good luck
