Help Help needed!

Guys i don't know whats happening. i posted on this forum my credentials and asked for your help before. I made up my mind then that i have to go back to my country and start my post graduate residency in medicine there. I was about to prepone my ticket as my return flight is scheduled on 2nd October 2013 but a friend of mine called me today and told me that there is a research position available in anesthesia and you should send me your resume. what should i do now? 224/209/2CS attempts/3year old graduate now. i don't have any money issues or problems relating to my stay here in US. probably i would get J1 sponsored by the dept in which i would do the research. the biggest problem is that after like 2-3-4 years of research would i be able to make it to residency. i know no one can tell me that with surety but at least what are the odds. i have not seen any person with 2 CS attempts making it to residency. If i go back to my home country after 4 years i would be a consultant in medicine but if i stay here after 4 years no body on this earth could tell me where i would be. its like burning boats. if i go back to my country i should have to stop thinking about USA and if i stay here there is no point of going back after 4-5 years empty handed. then i have to continue research for my entire life and make my career in it. you can see that i am in a lot of ambiguity. SHIMA,STEP-TAKER, XPAEZ, STEP BOY , MAVERICK anyone? i know you guys wont give me false hopes and you all should tell me to 1st get clear in my mind what i have to do. i tell you categorically " i want my specialization in medicine" i wont be satisfied on research. if research could pave a path for IM residency and it is worth it and it can over shadow my failed attempts and poor scores then its fine otherwise i dont want to spend the rest of my life in research. i know huge risks are involved, from 2015 being an IMG is another bad factor and you know why but if i decide to risk all what i have would it be worth it or counterproductive? I am all ears for your replies. My future decision banks on your advice guys

Okay normally I'm not like this but what you are doing right now is simply beyond anyone's imagination and I'm gonna have to show some tough love in this message. Dude you have to make up your mind and make your own decisions. Why are you asking people to make decisions for you, especially people in the forums whom you don't even know? First you wrote a message saying that you're going to give up seeking residency and then you sent another message asking whether you really should quit or not. And now you're sending this. Look if you want to get into residency then apply for residency. If you think that you have something better in your life to get into then so be it. Look at the pros and cons of each direction and go with something that is best for you. And stick with it and stop second-guessing. You're over the age of 21 so you should be capable of making your own decisions without asking other people to make decisions for you.

I am sure he is capable of making his own decisions but I think what he meant was our opinion. I am sure it is up to him to decide.

(First of all I am not discouraging you but just giving my frank opinion that you have invited)

Don't go into research if you are not genuinely interested in it. One cannot do well in research work without dedication and interest.

As you have specifically asked about the odds that you will match, in my opinion the odds are strongly against you. Even if you improve your CV by getting usce and research work, the key thing is that most programs will "filter out" candidates with one or two CS attempts without looking at the CV. Your scores aren't spectacular either. So you might not be able to even get any interviews, unless you have a very very close contact with the program director of any program.

In case you choose to take up 2 year research, you might become an "old graduate" by the time you apply for residency. And then there is the controversial news about lesser number of IMGs after 2016-17 (which I think is not happening till next 8-10 years).

There are too many ifs and buts in your mind. I would suggest you to go complete the residency in your home country and be a consultant in 4 years as you say. And lastly its your life, you have to decide for yourself, dont depend on other people's opinion if you know the facts.
