Certificate what college paperwork do i need to attach with from my ERAS application

so hi there

i have a scenario that involving electives, internship and residency so i put them here

so in my medical school six year study+1internship which you can take anywhere

so i will finish my sixth year in Jan 2013 and will start the internship from march 2013 till Feb 2014

i want to start my residency in June 2014 (right after i finish my internship)

so this is my questions

1-if i want to do 2 to 4 months from the internship in US what college paperwork do i have to send to them and is it ok to be photographed cause the college wont give me the orginial diploma and other papers till i finish my internship?

2-if i want 2014 match i have to apply to ERAS in 2013 so what college paperwork I need to attach with and is it ok to be photographed?

3-when is it actually i called graduated and by that i mean for elective/externship thing based in my scenario?

N.B. by photographed i mean to take copy from the college paperwork and then signed it by US Embassy here for authentication
then when i got the original i send it later which is in march 2014 at the time of the match

really really this is so important to me cause i dont to waste time between finishing medical school and starting of residency

i dont want to start the process of applying to residency when i finish the internship i want to start it during my internship year so i start after i finish my internship

and if you have any workout i will be appreciated

another thing i want site the describes what papers need to be sent with my ERAS application

thanks

"Proofread an unofficial copy before
having them sent out"

is this exactly what i am desctibing in my question?

and when exactly the deadline for sending my application to ERAS

and what if i send my application to the ERAS without the college paperwork and attach it later like 3 to 4 month after in case the college didnt get the transcript "photographed transcript" early?

by other mean : can i change my application once i send it to ERAS?

ERAS app. starts at Aug 15th, deadline by Nov, after that you pay 50$ for being late and you still can apply until Jan I guess, but the later the worse.
IVs in Nov,Dec and Jan., Match by March 17th.

About the paperwork, I guess non-Egyptian forum members can't answer that question, this is an Egyptian problem, and here is the tip, Don't go to either student affairs or graduate affairs, go look for some students doing their internships (when you are doing some IM clinical rounds, I guess you can meet some dudes from Emtiaz!!) and ask them where is the office that's responsible for their education (because it is neither student nor graduate affairs ), I guess it's something like doctors affairs or internship affairs, those guys got all of your paper from student affairs once you are done with 6th year , and if student affairs won't let you take any paper, this is because they don't have them anymore, also if graduate affairs will never give any papers ( med. sch. transcript or diploma or anything ) now, this is because they haven't got it yet.

So, all of your things are with the internship guys who are educating you or directing your internship.
And, there you need to ask something, not about if you can take a photocopy of the paper you need, but if you can do any internship months out of their program ( either somewhere else in Egypt or outside of Egypt ).
I couldn't get an answer to the later question, since its what ? feast vacation ? and no one goes to college these days, but I will ask later, because the answer to that question is the determining factor of whether or not you are gonna get a descent residency.

Regarding your scenario, and ECFMG cert. and whether or not you can apply to ERAS without it, I don't know the exact answer. But I know for sure that residency programs for FMGs will require ECFMG cert. by the time of applying to ERAS through the match, this is how they know that you are a graduate ( need your diploma and transcript for that, and not before Feb 2014 in your case ) and also that you passed Steps 1, 2 CK and CS.

I guess you mixed these two, final diploma and medical school transcript, well you only need the diploma to get ECFMG cert. and you will not get either the original diploma or its photocopies or authenticated translated copies UNTIL you finish your internship i.e. by Feb 2014 ( give it 2 months till it gets issued like in April, I asked about that in college ), on the other hand, the medical school transcript is used mainly to be part of your ECFMG cert. but you still can use it way earlier (if you plan to do an elective, a main requirement by US elective rotations ) since it should get issued right after the results of 6th year exams are out.( Now, I personally asked about that in student affairs and they issue that yellow certificate which contains all your grades from 1st thru 6th year, BUT they won'y give it to you, by the law they shouldn't, it has to go to the internship dudes where YOU SHOULD ASK )

I hope I helped.

Wait for other answers to that ERAS matter.

Default Clarifying the process

If you want to start the application while you are still in internship then you must apply in the status of "medical student".
In that case you don't need to send your Diploma or transcript to ERAS.
However, once you graduate (the date written on your Diploma) then you have to change your status with the ECFMG into a graduate.

The ECFMG will then verify your college papers with the college directly and once you pass Step 1, CK, and CS and get your papers verified by ECFMG you then be called ECFMG certified.

When you are ECFMG certified, the ECFMG will send electronic proof to the residnecy programs telling them that you are certified. So you don't need to send any college papers in ERAS, whether original or certified photocopies.

"The ECFMG will then verify your college papers with the college directly and once you pass Step 1, CK, and CS and get your papers verified by ECFMG you then be called ECFMG certified."

first of all thanks for ur reply it ment a lot to me and give me the hope

1-so where exactly i have to apply as "medical student"?is it in ECFMG site or ERAS?

2-and if i apply as "medical student" in 2013 and want the match of 2014

how the hospitals will respond ? will they accept me or not?will i get to go to the interviews in 2013 though i am still in 'medical student' status?

3-other thing if ECFMG will then verify my college papers with the college directly is that going to take alot of time so i have my self to check with the college to see if they did respond to them or not or it is known that colleges respond fast to this verification cause i dont want there delay affect my application

4-and also assuming that i will be done with step 1 ,ck and cs before the application of ERAS i will be certifed for ECFMG they just have to verify with my college right?

5-still this 2 questions from my original post
Quote:

thank you very very much

woow
so many questions!

OK I'll try to answer them one by one but if I miss on any of them please let me know

The required documents for your US internships varies from hospital to another so you have to check with the hospital you are applying to and see what they want.

As I told you in my previous post. You are called a graduate on the same day your Diploma produced (the date written in your Diploma). That's it, no other rule.

You apply as medical student to ECFMG to sit for the exams. You apply to ERAS as medical student to apply for residency programs.

Residency programs do send for medical students for interviews (before they graduate). This is actually the usual situation for US med students but it's rather rare in the case of IMGs. You should have at least Step 1 score handy so that they consider you.

The time needed to verify your papers by the college and the ECFMG depends on many factors. It takes from few days to several months!

The ECFMG starts to verify with your college as soon as you tell them you are graduate. According to the new rules. The ECFMG will not let you sit the exam until they verify your papers with your college.

when i have to care if it takes too long?i mean as you says i guarantee that they will send me to the hospitals for IV even so i will be matched, right? so it doesnt matter as long as i get matched?what do you think?

which exam?you mean step 3 right? cause as i told you i will finish 1,ck and cs before i change my status cause i will still be student and not graduate by the time i take those exams

Medical school transcript:
You need to send a copy of your medical school transcript. You should not send the original.
that was in you thread

Some residency programs require that you are ECMFG certified before they think to send you an interview. So to be on the safe side. You better be ECFMG certified before applying for the match in September.

No. I mean any exam. Even Step 1. The ECFMG won't let you sit the exam until they verify your status with your college (student or graduate the same) they need verification from the college before they give the scheduling permit to sit the exam.

I discussed this with Rasheed.
We reached to this conclusion.
You must notify the ECFMG that you have graduated and send them the required papers. But be prepared that they may cancel your eligibility period and ask you sign up for a new one after your documents get verified (the diploma and transcript).

and again what is "the" papers that i have to send
is it the orginal documents which i will take it after i finish my internship or photographed one which i will take during my internship

and you really scarring me by these cancellation issue
how bad is it?
and do i have to do step 1,ck and cs again or what?

No of course, it does not apply to AMGs but it applies to IMGs and quite frequently (I mean many programs do require you to be ECFMG certified before they send you an interview).

-You notify them when you get the Diploma.
-They'll will then ask you to sign a new form. Called form 186.
-They'll ask you for a translated copy of your Diploma.
-They'll again contact your college to verify your Diploma and ask them for your transcript to verify your new status (graduate not a student).

Your exam will not be canceled. If you have taken the exams that it nobody will cancel for you. Lee was telling you that your eligibility period "might" get canceled and they'll ask you to pick another eligibility period.

you mean the "eligibility period" for the next exam or my application for residency?cause as i told, before i reach that time i will hopefully finish the step 1,ck and cs so i am already "ECFMG certifed" except that i have to be graduated to be really "ECFMG certified", so i guess it is not the case here right ? i mean reagard canceling my so called "eligibility period"

so i notify them by changing my status to graduate, right?
ok the diploma is in English i think so there is no need to translate,or i didnt get the idea here?
ok so guess that they contact the college to verify that i am graduate and ask them to send my transcript and they refuse cause i am still in internship and i only can get a transcript if i finish my internship?what will happen then?or they will send it despite i am still in internship?

thanks

-The term eligibility period is in regard to USMLE exams only. If you have finished all the USMLE Exams before you graduate then that does not apply to you of course, you won't need an eligibility period and you won't have it canceled.

-If your Diploma is in English then of course you don't need to translate it!

-If your college does not recognize you as a graduate and do not give you the transcript until you finish the internship then you don't need to notify the ECFMG that you graduated. You can then apply in ERAS as medical student. In the interviews you can tell them that you are still doing internship and you will graduate soon and they'll be fine with that.
