Many programs have still not filled their interview spots. I have been told this today by 3 program coordinators.

Rej St. LUKE's, just NY and its programs left now..
Will start emailing programs in nov. to find out what the hell they are upto..atleast they shud have courtsey to send rejections..given the amount of money spent in doing this USMLE and then applying. There shud be a law aganist this kind of high handedness..

Conrad Fisher who is a PD in NY tweeted that IVs from his prog won't go out for another week or TWO. if this is at all similar to the anesthesia progs, there is still hope.

I agree that there should be a regulation where PD must reply with the decision. PDs get paid for their work and we do pay to apply. It is annoying to know that more than half of programs do not respond at all!

Well I guess I can take a positive away from today's mass rejections that I didn't get rejected from detriot....yet lol. I feel I'm just pending at a lot of programs which I guess isn't horrible. Cheers to good fortune this week!

This is not to discourage u...but here is the message from Detroit.."Already we have received almost 600 applications for our 10 positions - an extremely high number."...so it could be silent rejs also

Status report till date: REJECTIONS
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center - ANESTHESIA
St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center - ANESTHESIA
Boston Medical Center - ANESTHESIA
Lenox Hill Hospital - IM
Lincoln Medical Center - IM
Stony Brook - ANESTHESIA
University of Texas Medical at Galveston - ANESTHESIA
Flushing Hospital Medical Center - IM (wanted US citizen)

Saint Francis Hospital - APPLICATION HOLD IM
I guess we all got the similar generic rejections..I didnot get rej from detroit..but I guess it might be a silent one.
Am now getting frustated that y u people are not getting IVs. Once u all get alot of ivs and then decide not to go for a few of them..there lies my real chance..

Was a little bummed as UF has a decent amount of IMGs.
We should start our own self help group: AAA

If Flordia bums you out according to match a resident that mt Sinai program is made up of 86% IMGs

Nah the one in NYC. The Jersey ones are good for IMGs but typically for US citizens

Did your rejection from Hopkins mention that they are going to call you if positions open up? It was mentioned like that to me.. Does that mean something good?

It didn't say that in mine. It may be a good sign, you could always reply and state your interest in being considered first should anything become available

Actually, I have heard that there are less US applicants to anesthesia now because of Obama Care and because CRNAs are taking over. True or False?

Yea it looks brutal I guess I'm fortunate to have two ivs. They came very early on and I expected more. According to my friend a Carib kid had zero ivs and this point and was able to obtain 15 in nov. Now I know this kids had 265 on both steps but that seems unlikely as I counted only 20 img friendly programs left I haven't heard from

Take it for what it's worth but I spoke to our clinical director who said she noticed applicants getting IVs in Nov and that this has been a trend the last few years. I know it it doesn't help much but at least it leaves some hope out there for us.

Default Jefferson

I just talked to Thomas Jefferson. The secretary is waiting from the committee to get the list of people they are going to invite this afternoon. So, look to hear from them this afternoon.

It's a tough crowd out there boys. It looks like we got a few more IV's this week so hopefully it means they're starting to get to the IMG's now and next week we'll hear a little more.

Amen to that! Just very surprised how a lot of these img friendly places are doing silent rej. I'm hoping the couple rej I didn't get that some friends of mine did might turn into ivs. But yea seems very tough this yr

To be fair, everyone here has great credentials so being part of a group on the waitlist is not out of the question. Now if someone here had 205's and got the same letter I would say it's a rejection.

---

Due to rapid changing of plans by the New York State Department of Health to
re-configure Brooklyn's health care system, we are presently not interviewing
candidates for residency positions in our Internal Medicine residency program.
However, we are keeping all applications on file and continuing to accrue
both new applications and updates and additions (USMLE transcript updates,
ECFMG certificates, Letters of recommendation, etc.) to already submitted
applications.

Since we are not entering the NRMP match, we will not be interviewing
candidates before the date of the match. However, after the match, we may
call selected applicants for interviews.

Please do not contact us either by e-mail, telephone, or by mail as to the
status of your application since we currently have more than 3,000
applications and we cannot respond to everyone who contacts us.

If there are any changes in our status, we will contact all applicants by
e-mail.

Associate Chairman, Department of Medicine
Associate Program Director, Internal Medicine
Professor of Medicine, SUNY-Downstate Medical Center

I just got this email from UMC:

Thank you for submitting an application and for your interest in our program.
Our Selection Committee has completed their review and an email was sent via
ERAS to the applicants selected for an interview. If there are any
cancellations for future interview dates, the committee will do another review
and the selected applicants will be notified via ERAS.

Same rejections this week plus an IM prelim rej from Virginia Mason in Washington. I've heard from quite a few sources that mid November is a good time of month for IMG's and judging by other forums, it looks like people have started to cancel their IV's already. It's still frustrating not hearing much for the last couple weeks though. Anyone else hear anything or pretty much in the same boat?

Same boat however the rejections we all got have had a lot of img friendly programs which isn't so reassuring for mid November.

For what it's worth I spoke to one of our Pain fellows who was a recent attending at UMass and also an SGU grad. Regarding the low fill rates of seemingly IMG friendly programs he said that if programs don't have good US applicants they will purposely not rank many and look to the scramble to fill their spots with good applicants who didn't match into Ortho or Surg etc. Whatever is left they interview the good IMG applicants and they fill the remainder of the spots. This results in programs with a relatively high number of IMG's as residents yet few that formally interview there. Not that it makes a difference for interviews but it does put those NRMP numbers into perspective. He said although a lot of programs show empty spots, they will almost all fill through the scramble.

I have heard that they do this with failures at ortho derm ect. However how do they interview imgs after the match has gone out? If we do t get interviews I find it hard to believe we would be able to scramble in. But honestly I'm not sure how it really works. Maybe you can explain the scramble/soap process some more. At this point I was trying to to go there yet but with only 3 ivs it is worth hearing about right around now lol

I don't know the precise details but having spoken to an upperclassmen who matched at Case Metrohealth in Anesthesia, he had to SOAP into a surgery pre-lim spot after matching into the Advanced position. He said that every program in every specialty is open to every applicant through ERAS. You can look up each program and apply the same way you did when you applied on Sept 15th except that there is no charge (I'm not 100% sure about this fact). When looking up the programs, you will be able to see which spots are empty at which programs. Only people that haven't matched have access to this list so you can't have your friends searching on your behalf. Once you apply, the programs will contact you by email, by ERAS or by phone and may or may not conduct an interview either on the spot or through Skype. They can then make an offer within a certain time frame and you have some hours within which to look over the program information and either accept or decline. Essentially it is the same process we're going through now except open to every field and greatly expedited. I'm sitting at 2 IV's myself so the SOAP is definitely a reality. Hope this helps!

Greetings friends,

I'm a fellow IMG applying to anesthesia with 3 interviews. One of them being at NYMC. It seems others on this forum received an invite from this program as well. I didn't notice it before but seems like this program might be prematching from the email I got.

"If you are offered a residency position with our department, you will be assigned to a WMC contract. I have attached the 2013-2014 WMC contract for your reference. Please make sure that you read it over.
In the event that you are unable to keep your interview appointment, please let me know ASAP! "

What do you guys make of this? I thought prematches were a thing of the past.

Not a prematch. That's pretty standard at interviews. You have a chance to look over the contract and decide if it's acceptable or not
