Yeah. Good guess. The post above me was referring to the same I believe? I'm in NY currently and pretty happy to get another NY program. They had a bunch of available dates so keep your fingers crossed, Gluck.

Same. Do you know if that was a competitive program? It's in my neck of the woods and I didn't think it would be that competitive, was hoping for an invite.

didn't think so but a lot of these programs weren't super competitive that we all got rejected from. I just think its an awful year. hopefully we all get one of our couple choices

Yes. Just had a prelim iv today and it was the first question. I pretty much burned my chance there by answering the how many interviews do you have question. Took me off guard. Her response was that she doesn't want interns focused on matching the following year while trying to do their duty

It definitely would effect how they rank you. It's a hassle for everyone involved. But they won't know unless you tell them. I have never been asked how many Anes invites I have, but I've been asked if I have any Anes interviews in the area, I assume this is for ranking purposes too.

would they go so far as to ask which programs you are interviewing at? or could they contact the programs and base their rankings on how the anesth program ranks you?

The pd didn't ask that just wanted to know how many. I think it's kinda irrelevant bc ppl match all the time with 1 iv and some don't match with 15 ivs. But if it makes this person all warm and fuzzy I guess that's their call

Congrats. They have a pain fellowship there. And the residents seemed happy. The program seemed well organized and they get $20/day for meals.

4 anesthesiology and 12 prelim medicine. I'm considering canceling 2 of my prelims bc they each would cost 500 to fly out to whereas the rest are local.

You? What's consider a safe amount of prelims.

Interesting. Do you guys think having high scores will exclude you from certain programs (less competitive) because historically they match candidates with certain scores?

I'm asking because it costs money for programs to interview candidates so it'll make sense for them to interview candidates that are similar to last year candidates who matched at their program. And it'll be a waste of resources to interview very competitive candidates because they have better options. One of the programs I went to said they are interviewing candidates with good board scores this year and they had a 100% board pass rate in their program the last few years and wanted to continue that streak, then the PD said that it's taking a risk by interviewing candidates with high board scores. I sat there thinking what am I doing here...hopefully he didn't mistaken send me an interview. but my LoR writer is an alumni at this program... Anyway, what he said made me start thinking on why better candidates than me didn't get interviews at my programs.

Who really knows. I'm hoping this thing all works out for all of us. It seems so random and it doesn't mAke a whole lot of sense. Praying for the best

Tulane does not interview IMG's at all. I just got this rejection from Drexel:

"Dear Applicant,
Thank you very much for your interest in Anesthesiology residency at Drexel
University College of Medicine. This year's applicant pool is truly one of
the best to date. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer any further
interview positions at this time.
We will keep your application on file. If any interview dates become
available in the future an email notification will be sent.
I wish you the best of luck during the interview season and through the
matching process.
Sincerely,
Michael Green
Chari and Program Director
Drexel University College of Medicine
Hahnemann University Hospital"

How true is that the applicant pool is the best to date?

Nah, you'll get something this year. I bet there will be a bunch of anesthesia spots in the soap too. Last year had a lot and this year it won't be any different.

Did you interview at Rochester? How was it?

to participate in SOAP, is there a requirement that we attended at least one IV? other words, person with no IV can participate?

No there is no such requirement.
1.) Participated in NRMP
2.) Failed to match

Don't necessarily have to even apply to any programs.

I got another interview the day after new years. But I haven't received my confirmation email yet. If I don't get it by noon tomorrow, I'm going to call them because the expectant interview day is next week!

The offer was sent directly to my email and not through ERAS which makes me a little antsy without a confirmation email. Hopefully it wasn't a mistake!

Hope everyone is good. Been away for rotations for the last month but just wanted to check in and see what the final verdict has been. As for me, finished with 5 IV's:
3 Anes and 2 IM Prelim. Prelim ones are not strong by any means but def better than nothing. What's the deal with everyone else? Any success?

Those are solid numbers, congrats! 5 contiguous ranks bodes very well for a match. You're happy matching at any of the choices?

7 Anes, 11 prelim. I cancelled some of my interviews. It's tough ranking the programs after a single interview day. The AMGs on SDN discuss programs but most of their programs aren't places I interviewed at so it doesn't help me at all. Would it be helpful if we discuss our programs? I know my top 2 already but having a tough time between ranking location vs (perceived) quality.

UCONN vs Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson ?

Loyola vs Rush ?

Hey congrats on those IV's! I haven't interviewed at either UConn or RWJ but from being on the trail everyone had great things to say about RWJ. I was at the other Rutgers in Newark and they also spoke highly of it. I know that doesn't help much but take it for what it's worth.
Rush is a great hospital and I believe they get the more complex cases in South Chicago so you'd no doubt have a good clinical experience. Also it's hard to compare your first two locations with living in Chicago.

So I thought I'd update everyone since being away for a while. So I ended up with 6 interviews for Anesthesia which is yielding me with 9 contiguous anesthesia ranks since 3 of my programs have spots for both Categorical positions and Advanced positions. Hope all works out, have heard some solid feedback from some programs as well. According to that new IMG data on the NRMP site, that should give me around a 90% chance, but who knows what march will bring. Hope this all works out for us all. fingers crossed everyone and prayers sent out to you all

I matched in a Chicago program.
Some guy on SDN revealed that your match program shows up on page source coding on NRMP website.

I matched to an advanced anesthesiology but not prelim... Anyone with similar experience?. I'm trying in SOAP. This seems to be worse than not matching...
