Question So I finished step 2. Now what?!

My credentials:

YOG 2011
Step 1 -228, 1st time
Step 2 CS -pass, 1st time
Step 2 CK -last NBME 227, 1st time
2 months electives USCE with 2 LoRs (in 2010)
9 months research (and continuing) with 1 LoR and an abstract/poster presentation

Honestly, I really feel like continuing research. Even though I can probably apply this year (my score will be out on October 2).
It's intellectually stimulating and the thrill of publishing is amazing! I feel more "at home" than anything else I've ever done before.

Of course, my ultimate goal is definately residency and fellowship.

So, the question is, will applying next year hurt me?!

so why apply next year?? I think you can still carry on with your wonderful research for another 2 yrs and apply in 2016! 3yrs research experience will boost your chances come 2016

I think u should apply this year. Research will always be there but the more distance u have from YOG the harder itll get regardless of scores. Your also not applying too late and will have a complete application by early oct. go through with it my friend. If u choose to do it then good luck.

this research can get you in a much much better residency position. Don't worry about that extra year added in YOG..as long as it's not a gap..and is utilised doing something to improve your cv. 2 yrs of research makes you competent enough for the same place you're researching in. also more contacts.

the only thing i'd worry about if it's an unpaid research..it'll add up to so much expense in the entire next yr. Is yours paid??

Good luck buddy -in whatever you decide.
