Idea! US LOR uploaded by medical school for quick processing

Hello everybody
I need a help, I'm an IMG and I had received my LOR today from US doctor whom I did my elective with, can I let my medical school upload it for me so it can be processed in 2 days or should I upload it by myself through OASIS in which it will take 2 weeks and in that case i'll be late ???
please help me

For IMGs, only med schools that participate in EMSWP can upload on behalf of the applicants.

But there is a problem here. Since the US doctor gave you the LoR this means that you did not waive your rights to see the LoR and this means that you did not give him the Letter Request Form that says "waived LoR". Therefore, you cannot use your med school to use EMSWP to upload the LoR. In fact, if they do that, you risk putting your application under "irregular behavior" because the AAMC will say how come your "International" Med school has uploaded an LoR from a "US-based" doctor!

The only way to upload "unwaived" LoRs is via ECFMG's OASIS.

Then in that case they won't suspect irregular behavior but do not forget give the Chief of Internal Medicine an LoR Request Form that says the LoR is waived.

But if you ask me which of the following better:
A) Late LoR from US doctors
B) On-time LoR from abroad doctor

I'd pick A

Sorry I did not read your post carefully.

You said "unwaived"

Any LoR that is unwaived must be uploaded by OASIS, they won't accept it via any other method (LoR Portal or EMSWP). If you want to use EMSWP then you have to make it waived.

Thanks again StepTaker but you light a point for me, for programs that request a LOR from chief of IM dept plus 2 or 3 LOR should I apply 4 US LOR or 3 US LOR and 1 from the chief ??

This would be a great answer!!

I'm also wondering this! Right now I have 3 LORs from US doctors, but that same question has been intriguing me. Should we get a LOR from our chief back in our medical school?

Please, a prompt answer would be great because tomorrow I'm going to my home country for the weekend and it would be a good time to ask for the letter.

Mr. StepTaker, you are an awesome member of this forum and I look forward to your replies, but I had to intervene in this instance because your information is wrong. If your school participates in EMSWP (mine does too) they can ONLY upload an UN-Waived letter on your behalf. UN-waived letters can be uploaded via EMSWP (school), Oasis as well as LORP by yourself.

The ONE and ONLY way to upload a waived letter for IMG's is via LorP and that has to be done by your LOR author. (Only AMG's can upload waived letters via their medical school).

So if you want to upload it via your school, make sure you finalize the LOR author in ERAS and check the "Unwaived" box. Call ERAS to confirm. I always try my best to find my own information and I had called ERAS to inquire about this very same query.

Yes that is exactly what I did. Uploading LoR through ECFMG medical school portal is the fastest way to have LoR ready for application. But you must remember to finalize the LoR writer. Mine was processed within a day.

Yup. Just make sure when you finalize your LOR author on ERAS that you've selected an Unwaived letter. Then ask your school to upload the letter.

I have 3 waived (uploaded directly by the LOR Author) and 1 Unwaived uploaded by my school with EMSWP (which processed and was available in my eras post office within hours)

If your medical school in EMSWP then you can give the lor to them and they can upload it through EMSWP, about MSPE it should be also possible to upload through medical school, and yes it is faster
