Resident Combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry Residency

Hi,
I was wondering if anything knows about a combined IM/Psychiatry rotation? How many programs there are? How competitive is it? Are they IMG friendly? How long is the residency program? How much do these people make? What kind of USMLE scores are required? Can they find jobs easily? Is it worth doing both, or should one stick to one residency program?
I know it's a lot of questions! But I would greatly appreciate it if someone would be able to help me out! Thanks!

Happy Holidays!

Default Combined Internal Medicine / Pscyhiatry Residency Programs

A combined internal medicine and psychiatry residency takes five years and when you finish it you will be eligible for both boards, internist and psychiatrist. The idea is to produce physicians that can work in circumstances that require knowledge in both psychiatry and internal medicine such as geriatric psychiatry, patients with psych and organic diseases, psychosomatic medicine, chronic pain, substance abuse, cancer patients, HIV care, ...etc

There are only 12 Programs and they accept only 17 residents. Here's the current list of combined Internal Medicine Psychiatry Residency Programs:

  • California - Sacramento; University of California (Davis) Health System Program
  • Georgia - Atlanta; Emory University Program
  • Iowa - Iowa City; University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
  • Illinois - Springfield; Southern Illinois University Program
  • Kansas - Kansas City; University of Kansas Medical Center Program
  • Louisiana - New Orleans; Tulane University Program
  • North Carolina -Durham; Duke University Program
  • North Carolina - Greenville; University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina-NC (East Carolina University) Program
  • South Carolina - Charleston; Medical University of South Carolina Program
  • Tennessee - Johnson City; East Tennessee State University Program
  • West Virgina - Charleston; West Virginia University (Charleston Division) Program
  • West Virgina - Morgantown; West Virginia University Program
