Australia USMLE or AMC. please HELP!!

hello everyone. Im pursuing my final year MBBS and i always had the plans to take USMLE , but some seniors are recently suggesting me to try out the AMC route to Australia where , the believe, life is better with better job security than the US. Now im confused, because USMLE is way too difficult compared to AMC and if AMC is easier and better in foreseeable future , should i go for this? But my plans have always been with USMLE.please help me out guys, i will have to start my prep soon.

No one can take this decision for you, you are the one who has to take it.

Hello samin..I recently gave AMC clinical and passed both Ielts exam and amc mcq required to secure job in australia..
I am MD anesthesia in my country with post mbbs experience of 4 years in ANesthesia including my 3 year MD and 1 and a half year Senior residency.
I have more than 12 publications indexed in pubmed and have volunteered in various national and international projects.
I am not able to secure job yet..although my seniors who have more experience than me are working in australia.
U need to have MD in anesthesia, emergency medicine or ob/gyn..coz these specialties are required in area of need.
U will only get job after MD and that too u will work as registrar or unaccredited trainee..coz in order to be considered for accredited trainee position u need to work in big hospitals...and there ...all positions ae filled by aussies..
After mbbs u need to do internship there and then complete AMC 2 and then primary exam to enter trainee position...beleive me even securing internship will be difficult there...
Well qualified MDs are not getting jobs there or training position..so get my gist.
If u are new graduate then go for usmle..coz in amc u will waste ur time and money.Usmle recognises fresh graduates and u will be able to enter a well formulated training program....Hope I was able to help..u can research further on other forums..

I gave step 1 then step 2 ck in nov. 2012..thought that i might fail ..so started preparing for AMC..gave step 2cs..passed in all and by that time had almost prepared for amc and gave fees..which is a lot..(will cost u around 1 lakh 50 thousand) including IELTS. amc mcq is easy to pass for those who have passed ck..but when u apply there..u go to nsw recruit site..they have positions positions according to hirerachy first for fellows..(FRCA/FAZANCA,CICM guys)..the guys who are aussies..then guys who have done both AMC 1 and 2 and have PR..then guys who have done AMC /IELTS and have experience of 1 year in australia and ready to go....then guys like me with no aussie experience then u will fall on the lowest rung..i.e MBBS with no experience with just AMC/IELTS..who has to secure internship in the OZ
The main difference in australia and usa is:\
1. No set pattern in australia..for training of overseas doctor. By the time u secure or get into a streamlined program..(1 in a 10000 chance) u will have to start training which in case of ICU is 4 years and that will start if u pass ur AMC 2 (which is like USMLE STEP 2CS with $3500 fees and just 33% passinrg rate and 1 year waitng to get the oppurtunity to give the exam)and
FZANCA primary exam.

2. Australia is small as compared to USA when it comes to jobs..only 100 jobs in ICU, Em medicine and anesthesia combined..compared to this the figure is in 1000s in USA..plus they are all training positions..in which u get to add a degree and learn and specialise. In Australia u will be unaccres=dited trainee.means like a slave and after 1 year will still emain MBBS

3. In USMLE u will be judged on basis of score and its a much fair system..and u can plan ur own life according to the specialty u want..i.e if u want a tough specialty then go to us..do observership..electives..make contacts.

4. after ECFMG certification u will be recognised as MD in america.

boy there are a 100 more reasons but..i cant write them all...just pepare for usmle and u will get a fair chance..coz I know duffers from my college who failed and are now doing medicine and cardiology in USA..even i am a duufer like them and i got 99 or close to 99 in all steps. So .dont even think bout luxury now..study hard crack usmle..get board certified and then the whole world be an oyster for u..buh bye.

Good Insight ...Also where are you working now ...? did you went for the US residency as you have already passed the First 3 ...? also as being a cautious guy what do you suggest a plan B would be for a person ....obviously Plan A being USA

My advice:
Learn with the experience of Bonaparte and Hitler. You can't win a two front war! Just pick one one front and go for it. If you try both, the odds will be against you in double!

just kidding!
