Question Step 3 or Observerships??

Hey guys.. i'm planning on getting done with CK and CS by April'14, and Step 3 by june/july. I had 249 in Step1.
i currently have 3 Indian LORs and no USCE. How many observerships and american LORs will be enough to apply for IM?? and should i keep doing them till September, or till the interviews begin?
Any suggestions will b helpful.. thanks!

you need 3 LoRs from US doctors. I would focus on getting observerships that will give you at least 3 months of US clinical experience before September. You also need to keep active during interview season.
Im applying this season and my last observership is in November so Ill use December and January for step 3.
Step 3 is not as important in matching as US LORs and USce

Good luck and congratulations on your step 1 score!

thank u so much fr the advice! n good luck for ur interviews!

one more thing, is it a must that all 3 US LORs be from teaching hospitals? or i can get 1 or 2 from a non-teaching one? does it also matter if they are from a caucasian/afro-american doctor or an asian one? me being an asian.

I think the ethnicity of LoR writer would not matter as long as they are the attendings who have observed your clinical works directly.

But I am confused about the observership. Do they count for USCE? I am asking cuz some residency program websites said they do not consider observership as USCE... Correct me if I am wrong. I thought it has to be externship or something.

observerships r just backups for those who dont hav externship or clerkships to show. just a means to getting american LORs. not many programs consider it USCE. but it does get u the LORs.
