Search Research now or after residency ?? Or Should I really ?

I am IMG (YOG 2014) , & aiming for IM in good university programs . Should I apply for the 2015 match without research experience or 2016 match with some good research publications and volunteering during that time.

In other words , should I drop 1 year for the sake of research and also prepare well for the steps,, coz I would like to do cardiology fellowships soon after residency. Since research strengthens applications for fellowships also ,,should I go for it now since it would help me with residency applications too instead doing it after residency ?!!

& If done, will it be worth if I manage to do some good clinical research with publications while in INDIA ??

Thanks a lot in advance. , please suggest .

first priority should be to be ECFMG certified, if you are certified by Sept 15 next year, i would apply immediately (without research). Odds of finding residency decrease as you spend more years out of medical school.

If not immediately after being certified I would be applying within 2 years from my year of graduation. .....

Do you think 2 years would decrease my chances that significantly ???
moreover I would be going for either some good research or some volunteering during that time... !! wtsu ???

Do the steps first, get good scores and then think about the future. There is no point of us telling you what to do, because for example (and God Forbid) you fail an exam or get low scores.. What will happen then? Ask these questions once you have at least Step 1 and/or 2 on under your belt. I have known people with awesome step scores (more than 260) without USCE that have entered Baylor or Emory programs.. SO you see research is not important when you are THAT STRONG.

DOnt try to run when you havent walked yet
