Default cali progs is not IMG friendly

Cali is not IMG friendly. Many AMGs apply to Cali progs, so competition in that region of the US is tougher

Well... it depends entirely on the program and specialty to which you're applying. I know for a fact that there are Cali FM prog that are IMG friendly. IM is a fight. If you're FM, i would recommend applying just because the PTAL process deters a lot of potential competitors from applying. Even the one's who do get the PTAL usually go for the more competitive specialties.. which further improves your chances (for FM).

main thing is, you need a social security number, otherwise you cant get a PTAL. Thats the main thing that stops IMGs from applying to CA.

unless you have a green card or you are a citizen, you wont have a social security number. I am not sure if H1B holders get a social security number, i think they do, but not sure.
