You should've applied to 200+ programs to increase your chances.

There's still hope until Christmas. Beyond that it's very low chance you get an interview invitation.

Research publication in Medline-indexed journals is more powerful than Step 3 if you are applying to University programs but step 3 is more powerful for community programs.

Speaking of that, you have better chances in community programs (low profile programs) so apply to these more than University programs.

Another way to increase your chances is by doing more USCE and making connections with residency programs (residents, faculty, program directors, program coordinators, they all can get your interviews).

Dear StepTaker
I used match aresident to apply....and there is no 200 prog. that can accept applicant with 2nd attempt on CS !!! also I looked at IMG percentage and if any prog. with less than 30% I didn't apply to that prog. ....so what do you think???
is there anyone this year with second attempt in CS getting IV's???

Hey MD-2011,

I didnt see a graduation Year, I am assuming from your handle that it is 2011. As long as hope is concerned, there is always hope. However, In my opinion you need to do a few things:

1) USCE - at places that has residency and you want to match. Look at low profile community programs.

2) Research is good but only if you have a publication in decent journal. Just research with no publication is useless.

3) Step 3 if you dont match this year is a must cause that shows progress on your application. Even though most PDs dont care about it, it does add a comfort zone. BUt keep in mind, you fail step 3.. look for alternative career.

4) OPTIONAL if you have money - do an observership at a big name so you can get a big name LOR.

Anyway, just a thought... this season is not over yet. Remember everything is a wk later compared to last year. So there is still hope. Good luck
