Smile Prematch offer. Next step?

Hi everybody,

I received a call from a PD offering a PGY1 position for Psychiatry,
I accepted and then I was sent a letter signed by the PD which I also signed and sent back to the PC.

I had some more interviews scheduled, is this a sure thing to withdraw and cancel remaining IVs? are intention letters enough to be on the safe side?

PS no contract yet.

I am happy but can believe its real

you need to show proof that you have withdrawn from the match before signing the contract i think, google for more info, thats what i heard though.

Lol no its the other way round. Once you have a signed contract thats the point at which you withdraw from the match. Makesure you have a signed contract in hand from the PD and then you are safe to start cancelling interviews and withdraw.

Congratulations on your match.

DRF: the best way to get your answer is to call NRMP and ask them if letter of intent is binding and based on that should you pull from the match and cancel your IV. I think they should be able to answer it.... UNLESS some PD on the board steps up and answers you question, i think that would be your best approach...

It's weird that the contract will only be ready by March. Because it is NRMP policy that they show us the actual contract during our interviews, meaning it should be prepared by the time interview season starts. This is also the first time I'm hearing about a "letter of intent" in lieu of a contract.

I would contact NRMP if I were you. Better yet, make sure you have an e-mail or a written documentation of whatever the person at NRMP tells you. This is the match we are talking about afterall. We all need to be paranoid (in a good way).

Actually what I received is an contract offer letter. so I don't know if these changes anything. I spoke to the NRMP and they are unable to give information on that because if they are outside of the match they are on their own policies..
