Idea! The dramatic turnaround

My creds are Step 1 (235), step 2 (238), Ck- High per. , Step 3 (217)
(Pretty lame n average score but all first attempt and after intensive sudying), passed AMC also with score of 265.

I am MD from home country, ..MBBS grad in 2009 and MD Anesthesia in 2012. No breaks in my life since the age of 3.

SINCE then working as Senior Resident. Have 12 publications outta which 8 in pubmed..national plus International.

Tonnes of volunteer, reviewer of 2 international and national journals.
Emergency Volunteer doc. for ATLS, ACLS, BLS - during National events.

200 rejection from Australia since July plus Got no IVs, this match as due to my overconfidence and massive stupidity, I believed that I did not require US observerships or LORs and that was (in my opinion - the most important limiting factor for IMGs with similar scores and profiles) .

Subsequently, after getting ass kicked from both parts of the world and humbled into depression , I kept on applying for fellowships, since I had Step 3 and MD. No luck there either as, most of them filled till 2015/ 2016. I started doubting the whole process and more sadly, started doubting myself and my creds as I was not used to rejection (reason for my over confidence)

I started preparing myself mentally to pursue observership for 3 months in USA, but its very difficult in my specialty to get it and the time was already running away and high probability of 3 meals/day = 1 meal/ 3 days due to money invested in it. Plus, bottom line is contacts matter and I barely have them, even in my home country.

But then recently after months of applying world wide for fellowships and a rigorous telephonic interview with PD, was offered a Fellowship in Anesthesia.

Facts :
1. Non - ACGME -- not a drawback as, as per current rules, only thing I am eligible for right now.
2. Clinical SUB-SPECIALTY that I craved for
3. In prestigious University in Canada,
4. One of the best teaching hospitals
5. I have to formulate and conduct Thesis/research to be published in peer reviewed journals.
6. Offering double the amount of PGY 3, salary in USA. (least but most enjoyable point)

So, I think its a massive plus for me compared to observership and might make my application more yummy if I apply for match next year. I sincerely hope this gives a positive message to all hard working docs (both post MD and Juniors ) to keep fighting and be tenacious. I still don't know the future prospects of this fellowship in terms of getting residency in USA, but I humbly hope to achieve the level of competency required during training period.

Moreover, I want to thank the forum for giving me support during tough times and wish best of luck to all my buddies (especially in Anesthesia match forum) who are still in race.. May NEW Year be the New beginning.
