Default Second Look?

I know there are a lot of posts on the subject, but none of them are recent. So my question is if second looks have any advantage when it comes to the program ranking you higher. Any idea what the recent views regarding second looks are? Is it advantageous in any way?

I had my interviews sometime ago, so what else can I do to remind the program about me as a potential candidate?

Any info will be highly appreciated.

I keep getting mixed views from people/residents. A lot of them told me that second look doesnt change anything. So people told me its a good idea. I am planning to do a second look for my top choices, having difficult ranking #1 and 2...

A program director once explained to me that a second look is for the benefit of the applicant, to aid in his or her ROL. But it does not affect how the program will rank you. Especially if the programs sits down and discusses at the end of every interview day to go through the applicants they interviewed that day, which I would assume most programs do.

in one of my interviews (the program im considering to do a second look at) the program director said when closing that if i wanted to come back for a second look just contact them and ask and they can arrange it. you think she meant that for my benefit?

Possibly yes, since they are trying to sell themselves inasmuch as we are trying to sell ourselves. If I were you, and if travel is not an issue, I'd just go since there is nothing to lose anyway. My dilemma is that the program I want to rank #1 requires a plane ticket plus hotel stay and in this time of the interview season my finances are low

Not entirely! You can make a complete ass of yourself and thus you have a lot to lose. (Seems to happen quite often).

As posters above have said "A lot of them told me that second look doesnt change anything." This is 100% correct. NRMP Rules dictate the same.

Second looks are all about you, following a resident around on any particular rotation that you want to see what its like. Worse case scenario presented in paragraph #1.

Hope that answers your question Megz!
