Default Several questions regarding Match possibilities!

Hey guys, how are you doing!? I'm an IMG from Argentina and I'm very looking forward to Match on 2015 or 2016. But I have a few questions I'd like to get answered so I can start working through this final path.

1) As regards research, does it have to be necessarily done in the US? For example, if it's published but here in my home country, will it be from any use?

2) USCE, how long should I get into one of this programs? 6 months, 12? Which one is better, observerships or externships? What about the prices of them?

3) I've read in many forums that having good marks on med school does help, but being an IMG, is it of any use?

I know it's a lot, but thanks for the answers in advance!

G'luck for those who are willing to match this year!

1) research helps but it's not as important as good score and I don't think it means anything to community programs. I think we IMG's over hype the importance of research but to answer your question, it has to be done here in the states.
2) externship of course is more valyed than observership. In fact, some programs dont have any regards for observership.
In terms of duration, the longer the better.
3)your medical school result has no impact as an img. Usmle score is the most important factor coupled with recent yog and usce.

[QUOTE=nathanlukew;234822]Hey guys, how are you doing!? I'm an IMG from Argentina and I'm very looking forward to Match on 2015 or 2016. But I have a few questions I'd like to get answered so I can start working through this final path.

1) research help , but it is not necessary, you have to put all you publications in your CV, even if they are from your home country

2) USCE is extremely necessary, from my experience, there is no difference between externship and observer ship, PDs valorate the experience that you got about the US system, in either of them, and they know that you don't have as much experience as AMG who did all their clerkship in the US, as a med student. Besides "externships" are almost a scam for IMGs, extremely expensive they sell you an insurance that you don't need. The more months you can do, one of them, the best, you need to get Letters of Recommendation

3) It is always helpful, to get a Medical Student Performance Evaluation from your med school to have a complete application, but it does not improve your application
