3yrs gap.. makesure you have explanation for it. Taking the steps is not a good excuse. By the time you match and start residency you will already be 4yrs.

Is working full-time (non-clinical setting) a good enough explanation? This process is expensive and some of us have to pay bills.

Most of the time no one asks cause you have it explained in your resume. BUt you should have one just incase. A lot of people apply for residency and work simultaneously. The process is no where even close to the cost of your medical school. I dont think paying your bills is a good excuse.... Anyway, i am not a PD so cant say for sure...

Default YOG concern

PD's prefer to see a medical-related, research based job, so unfortunately the non-clinical setting job will not suffice to explain your gap. However, this does not mean that you won't Match. If you feel like explaining, then do it in your personal statement, but don't make it sound like a pity story. Hope that helps.
