Question Psychiatry match with step 1 score 233

I was disappointed with my Step 1 score because my last NBME gave me a 247, and I hear about a lot of people getting scores in the late 40s or 50s.

With a score of 233 on step 1, do I have good chances of psychiatry matching? Especially since we hear everything gets more competitive every year.
I am an IMG by the way.

Thanks in advance!

233 is definitely high!!! You definitely are very competitve!!!

But I think visa issue still weighs heavily, I heard from an applicant saying that his peer is 250/260 but cant have one interview from FM. I have one peer who got 10 IVs without CK/CS results from Peds(this peer applied when CS was pending and no CK result yet).

But I want to tell you that you are very competitive!

Thanks a lot!! I still have CK and CS to do. Maybe if I do better on CK that will boost my chances more.

Hello!, I am sorry if I am posting in the wrong place or something. But I am new to this site and I hope you shall bear with me.
I wanted to ask if anyone could let me know some hospitals or universities which would accept a foreign IMG ( myself) for a psychiatry observership. I do not seem to get the hang of the ERAS and most of the places mentioned there I write to do not seem to be accepting IMGs anymore.
People who have done observerships can you please help me out??

According to the last Charting the Outcomes for IMGs (The most recent data out there), 34 out of 117 non US citizen IMG applying for psych with scores from 191 - 200 matched. This is about 29%.

The newest match data shows that non US IMGs with scores in the range of 231 to 240 had 17 out of 29 people match. This is about 59%.

US Citizen IMGs in that same score had 12 out of 16 match. This is 75%.

It should not be a problem... you score is good... This year is really bizarre... just dont know how they do the screening process in FM or Psych... Best thing you can do is more electives in psych or FM.. makesure you personal statement is strong... LORs from the specialty you are interested.

If you take the step 3 it would really help with psych. Just remember psych/fm is no longer about the scores but rather about overall application.

Hope that helps..
