Default Imgs with less then 200score

I want to know that if IMGs.with less then 210 score in step 1 should continue or leave usmle path...i think residency chances in FM ,paeds,IM will be like zero even if u get good score in step 2..
So guys should we aim for ecfmg certificate or not..may be ecfmg certificate will help us in future if we apply somewhere else...

It is very very competitive now a day and I dont think people can answer that question for you. You will have to wt out thing:

1) Are you US citizen? IF yes you might have a higher chance and some programs might consider you.

2) Is you medical school done? meaning you are not spending anymore money on rotations. If so then you dont have much too loose. Might as well get the steps done and try your luck. But if you still have clinical rotations left then I would think twice before spending anymore money.

3) Are you an old graduate? more than 5 yrs.. i would think twice.

4) Are you going to be done with your steps to apply for residency next yr? There are a lot of programs with their minimum requirements at 200, well this year. Next 1-2yrs i can picture them to be above 210. If you are applying 2016 or later I would reconsider.

Anyway, no one can tell you the future. These are some points you should consider as you make ur decision. Goodluck.

It's difficult but not impossible. If you read the thread from last year of those people who matched, there were people with 201-203 step1 scores who matched in IM. The factors listed in the post above mine are important, as is what you do to compensate for your low score. If you can find some great research opportunity and are able to publish a manuscript on a topic that moves the PD to see there's more potential than just your step1 score, that will help. But that comes after, the first battle for you would to be to avoid filters which programs have, as the post above me mentioned, with each passing year the cutoff's set by programs is being raised. IM programs on average receive well over 3000 applicants each year and the major way of excluding candidates is by setting cut offs. It would be a struggle, but nothing is impossible. Just be weary of the fact that if you want to go through with this, you will spend a lot of money and time on trying to become an attractive candidate, and there is a very high chance that none of it pays off. If that's something you can afford - go for it.
