Default Visa rejections

So i got my visa rejected again today. This was the 2nd time i tried to go for the CS. The other time was last year when i applied for the visa after giving step 1 and got the same result. This time i was employed in one of the top ranked University hospitals in my country. I had a score of 250s in step 2 (step 1 in 240s). Their main problem was that i took of bit of a break after i did MBBS to give the step 1. A mistake thats been deemed unforgivable. I understand that this pretty much ends my chances of ever going to US for residency, and i wont deny that i am highly disappointed as it took some neck breaking hard work to get the scores. And whats worse is that i dont see a way i can get a visa now, just so i can go and give CS so i can apply for a match.
I'd really appreciate some guidance if anyone has been through the same.
Thanks.

Sorry about your plight which country are you from?
Well, I'm Nigerian & we are often given tough time at the embassy but I realized it helps alot if you are calm, collected & show no sign of desperation. show them the invitation letter from ecfmg, your step 1 & 2 score sheets, employment letter from your job to prove you have a life back home & also a letter from a relative pledging to shelter you during your visit. You should also try another embassy this time & have a reasonable bank account.

I['m very sorry to hear about your situation. You may have done this already, but have you been in contact with ECFMG about this? Do you know abou their visa part of their website(http://www.ecfmg.org/evsp/)? Although I don't have personal experience with their services on this topic, I know you can live-chat somebody from ECFMG as well as give them a call (details are on the website). They may or may not cover the type of visa you need to get into the U.S. for the Step 2 CS but it may be worth a try. Again, you may have already have been there, but if not, this may be a good place to turn to before you completely give up.

Do you know about the visa part of their website(you can google "ECFMG ESVP"). (The post above is a re-post. I posted about 5 min ago, but I originally had the external link to ECFMG ESVP and because of this the post went to the moderators. As I don't know how long the approval process takes so I've re-posted without the link so you can see it earlier.)

A friend of mine from Lahore had his visa rejected 3 times before he finally got it. I suggest each time you try to convince them with evidence that you deserve to go there. I would even print out the NRMP Charting Outcomes of 2013 match, and take it with me to show the case officer how you are an exceptional candidate (if your scores are indeed as you say). It will prove to them that you truly are a deserving candidate. You did not say how long its been since you graduated from medical school, if its been over 5 years then I understand why the high commission is reluctant to approve your visa. You should also try to get observerships/externship in the US. An invitation letter from a hospital in the US will strengthen your application immensely. Good luck

Sad to hear about your distress ...some points that people said helped in their visa interview to gain acceptance ...
  • u must have taken both step 1 n step 2 before applying.
  • u must b employed.
  • u must have legal papers(affidavit n legal surity bonds) showing that u will return after c.s other wise u will b legally liable.
  • u must have proper itinerary showing that u will only visit c.s exam center n no other visits inside u.s
  • u must not mention about ur relatives in u.s( even if u have, if u mention thats like a suicide ).
  • u must have strong bank statement of ur sponsors.
  • ur future plans should b ''cooked'' in such a way that shows u will obviously come back to ur homeland after c.s
  • ur personal job's pay slips, showing that u r really getting pay here in your home country n cant stay away for a long time.
  • properly signed ''leave application'' from ur job officer, institution head(M.S).
  • all the documentations regarding c.s
  • hotel booking in u.s showing ur temporary stay.
  • Having a RETURN TICKET WITH YOU

you have done some of the stuff here , and doing others might help ...also do consult a visa attorney to discuss your case with them ...Good Luck !

Hi,
No sir I hadn't tried that. Thank you so much for sharing. They do however only sponsor a certain type of a visa. I am trying to get in touch with them about my situation.

There must be something you are doing wrong. I would suggest you consult a reputable lawyer who can go over your documents before you apply for a visa. I dont know of anyone from my medical college in Lahore who passed steps and had a visa refused. There must be a red flag in your application or a mistake you are repeatedly making without being aware of it. Speak to a lawyer, let him/her review your documents and then apply again. Good luck.
