California California IMG Friendly or Not?

I noticed that there are contradictroy ideas about Cali & IMGs...some say it is unfriendly at all, some say if you got the PTAL you have good chances.

May you explain the situation there ? Do IMGs with PTAL can match in good univs at Cali since no competition from non-PTAL IMGs ??

Arrow California is both IMG friendly and unfriendly!

California is a lovely state. The weather is fantastic and the people are super friendly and the economy is solid. It has great night life and entertainment, super prestigious university names (UCSF, UCLA, Stanford ...etc)

Therefore, AMGs all over the country are aiming at a match in California. As a result of that, the chance for IMGs to get into California is greatly diminished compared to other states.

Add to that the California letter difficulties and then you get a very low percentage of IMGs matching in California.

However, all that applies to California Universities. The story for community residency programs is extremely different. IMGs can easily get into small non-prestigious community programs in California. Specially in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics.

To summerize,

University Programs and Prestigious Community Programs are very very very difficult for the IMG.
Regular Community Programs are relatively easy for IMGs (of course I mean IMGs who have the California letter in hand).
