forget about research! just do clinical stuff as much as you can. research really counts only for high end residencies like dermatology and AMGs. can tell you because i have 7 yrs of research in top institution and publications in high impact journals. at the end, it will count more for fellowship but not as much for residency!

this is too much...
just have some normal clinical experience in us, find somebody to shadow. you have 5-6 more months, its plenty! you dont need stuff mentioned above.

So you matched ??
What makes the BIG BIG difference is One Institution, One University Setup - 6 straight Months ...... at the end of that you know all and they all know you . . .
Probably something you wouldn't realize unless you had the experience of being there doing that.

yes i did match , internal medicine.
had usce from 3 different institutions, 2 states. 2 internal meds + 1 pathology. overall, about 6 mo.
i don't think it really matters from where you get usce, they are to discuss your lors and what people said about you, not people who you worked with!

and in regard of abovementioned institution, if you have money - try. again, its better to be in a hospital and do sg for real.

I didn't do anything special about OB because at the time i was doing research in big university hospital and just asked doctors that i worked with to shadow them sometime.
generally, people are nice, especially if you find somebody who was IMG himself. Even letters that they write are much much better than Americans do.
