If you have money to waste, go ahead and use matcharesident.com

However, You don't need it. Research the programs yourself by visiting their websites. Matcharesident just gives you a list of programs that are allegedly tailored to your profile. The reality is that they just copy+paste a bunch of programs that are NOT suited for you.

Matcharesident is for lazy applicants.

GamX,

Thats is an unfair and misleading reply to dr. Zh's question! We take every effort to provide you with a service created and run by foreign medical graduates. Program websites are not a source we use when collecting program information, actually most program websites are incomplete and many are outdated. We rely on direct contact only. Every criteria we collect from the program (by phone), no copy and pasting as you have described.

dr. Zh, visit our website and read every detail about what we offer. Call us and hear what we have to say and also if you live locally visit our office in San Marcos, California.

Forums is not a good place to ask for opinions, unless you know and trust that online person.

GamX, if there was a reason for providing this unfair feedback, please contact us and address your concerns. If yo have been using program websites then that could be the reason why you've found any discrepancies.

Match A Resident is not for lazy people, but for people who want to focus thier attention to thier applications rather than wasting thier times on doing a research we have done for them already.

Thank you,

Sam Musa, MD

Thumbs Down DO NOT use MAR!!

its a complete waste of money. and not only that, but it will also give you a wrong idea of the IMG friendly programs. please, DO NOT use it! I did, because I was running out of time but later found out about MANY programs that were suitable for me and they were not listed as such.

it is useless! I just matched to a program that wasn't even in the list they provided according to my credentials! I got the list and additionally researched each program by myself, it takes a to of time but worth it. I think I bought the list in desperation! It was a smart move that I applied to few more programs not in the list provided by matcharesident.

Default I bought it

I bought it, not cause I am lazy but because at the time I had a lot going on(2 and 4 yo kids, observerships, etc) and I saw it as saving some time, however is a good start point but shouldn't be the only thing you rely on, I matched in a program I found there so it worked for me, but also gave me results of programs that don't even accept IMG's, and clearly state it on their website, so I personally apply to the ones listed there, and others I researched on my own. In short is 100% better if you can do the work do it yourself.

I had it in the this match. According to me, it ind of over-estimates the compatible programs. It will tell you the names of Programs which you probably wouldn't apply to, unless you are a very high profile and perfect applicant. But once it suggests, you won't feel like skipping it , so more wastage of 35$. The best is to do your own research and apply. I did it because I had no time at all because of my CK schedule.

Post Pretty helpful!

I used matcharesident and I would say based on my experience that it is pretty helpful in searching for programs. Contrary to what some people say here, it is quite accurate and has updated info. I don't have time to research all programs one by one. What I did was to use the website as a primary filter and then whatever programs came out as compatible to my credentials, I double checked their website and also looked at ACGME.

Of course matcharesident is not perfect and might miss some programs. You still have to check the results with your own research. But to say that this is a scam would be ridiculous and absurd. I would definitely recommend this service to anyone. By the way, I matched at my first choice.

I am sorry if my assessment sounded unfair, but if you go through this forum and any other forum, you will realize that 9 out of 10 people agree with the concept that it pays to research for the program yourself.

The truth is that people will use your services regardless. Because humans just love the easy way.

Once again, I am sorry if my assessment sounded unfair.

I unfortunately made the mistake of purchasing MatchAResident. Anyone who says this website is accurate is a complete Liar. Yes of course you may miss some programs…but to flat out lie about percentages is a scam. According to Olivia Mishler for matcharesident, “We collect the information through direct contact with each program over the phone and through email”. After only 15 minutes, I found so many hospitals that are just absolutely inaccurate. For example, the listed Wyckoff as 5% IMG for IM when it is 100% IMG for IM. Only in the Match year 2016, did they accept 2 DO students. Who are you exactly getting you information from the Janitor? No offense to Janitors I am sure they will actual do a better job. Wakefield in NYC on matcharesident.com was listed as 100% IMG for IM when the percentage is closer to 2%. This is ridiculous. Not to mention 30% of the hospitals listed state “No IMG percentile found/No IMG statistics listed etc”. Like others have mentioned if you have money to waste, go ahead and use matcharesident.com. Otherwise do not bother. If any wants this inaccurate information PM me.

Match A Resident is a residency program research resource absolutely dedicated to helping the IMG community find the right programs to apply to. It is for that reason we work tirelessly to update our information annually through a team of individuals trained to call programs to obtain our information. For example, our team member called the program coordinator at Wyckoff Heights, learned the number of residents in the whole program (76 in total), the number of IMGs among those residents (4) and got 5% IMGs. This information was updated Aug 4, 2016. We would like to know your source of your claim that the program has 100% IMGs. Making claims about a program’s information is potentially harmful to other residency candidates. With regards to the programs with “Percentage Not Disclosed,” this is because we observe a program’s right to privacy. We ensure the program is IMG friendly while still maintaining a relationship of collaborative respect with residency programs.

Match A Resident is most importantly dedicated to helping IMGs throughout the residency process for +12 years. This is why we have a free informational blog, provide free guidance to any candidate who calls, and even provide guidance on this forum. It is for this reason we tried to reach out to you multiple times to speak over the phone to explain Match A Resident and our process for your comfort and security, despite being outside of our business hours.

For that matter, if any residency candidates has questions about Match A Resident, we encourage you to give us a call at 760-904-5484 ext. 2. Our business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (PST).

**Also, please be advised: The sharing of information from Match A Resident’s list is a violation of our Terms and Conditions.

Thank you for the great questions!

With regards to program tracks, any Customized List would include programs with a mix of those that have Advanced, Categorical, or Preliminary programs depending on the medical specialty. Match A Resident provides information for programs as a whole for you to decide if you will choose to apply to the program or not. You will choose which track to apply to once you apply to the program through ERAS.

With regards to Matching outside of this list, each and every residency candidate has different circumstances. The most ideal situation would be to apply to every program in a specialty. However, since most candidates cannot afford to do this, Match A Resident helps provide a basis of program research saving you the time spent gathering program information when you could be preparing other parts of your application. While the list provides a solid base of programs to pick from, candidates are still free to apply to programs outside of the list at their own risk, if they are taking a chance, or if they have connections to other programs. The ultimate decision of where to apply is up to each residency candidate, we are just here to help you get there.
