Default NEED HELP ,before I get a stroke or a heart attack !

This is my profile

YOG:2011
step1: 228
ck:212
CS: pass (all 1st attempt)
ECFMG certified
1 month externship with one us lor,the rest from home country

applied to 165 IM programs & got 4 IVs that went really well but didn't match.

Now I'm torn on what to do?

1-do I go for another 3 months of hands-on training + step 3?
2-look for research?

I'm targeting community & Univ-affiliated programs.

You need to take the step 3 AND get more USCE. Target above 221 for your step 3 (the national average).

You also need to apply realistically next year. Go through the program's website, make sure they have a good number of IMGs. Don't apply to programs with only AMGs.

If you are desperate about starting a residency, have back up programs like family medicine and psychiatry.

You need to also try and work on your interviewing skills. Get interviewed by a friend and find out your weak spots.

Lastly, dont lose hope.

Thanx GamX,
so are you voting against research?
Do you think 4 months on Hands-on training is enough +step 3?

thanks again

It's too late to think on the research path as a way to boost your cv for 2015 match because: 1. You won't get it published before application day 2. You would still be 'conducting' research by match day, which doesn't mean anything.

Doing externships or having clinical hands on experience carries more weight. You are applying to be a clinician/doctor, not a researcher. Research should have been done in medical school, or as soon as you left medical school. Starting now is kinda late for 2015 match.
