Help visa sponsorship for research assistant

Hi, everyone
I would like to ask for your help to clarify my doubt about visa for research assistant. Please answer my questions &/or correct my statements.
Most of the research assistant positions are paid jobs and therefore I need J-1 or H1B visa.

Are there some institutions that sponsor working visa? And if not, do those hospitals usually make contract with you and wait (and wait for a long time, cause I understand that the process for J-1 takes at least 6-8wks)in order to be able transact the visa through ECFMG?

I searched a lot about how to get the visa. It seems that some programs do sponsor the visa, but it was not very clear for me. It's also possible to start calling all the hospitals asking about visa sponsorship (and actually I'm thinking on doing it), but if somebody has any useful information, especially a forum staff, I'll be eternally grateful.

Thanks very much.
