Listening Old IMG and the importance of Graduation Freshness

Hi guys.

I'm a doc in India who passed his MBBS in 2006, internship 2007 and PG in may 2010. Does this make me an "Old IMG"? Lot of discouraging words on the Internet for such people trying to get through USMLE. Can anyone enlighten me on how important is 'Graduation freshness' in trying to secure a residency?
And a good one at that?

Arrow Some info

The issue of old IMG grad is real and it's not a myth.

Residency programs do not want "old" graduates in their team of residents for a variety of reasons such as:
  • They think that experienced doctors are not motivated enough to learn.
  • They are afraid that old grads will not be willing to take orders from PGY2 residents who are younger and less experienced than them!
  • They think that "old grads" have long gaps in their CV and they lost touch with the clinical life.

However, there are residency programs that do not care about graduation freshness, I'd say 100s of programs. In fact, there are programs who "live on" old graduates, they like them, they like to get experts
