Default

I recently attended a webinar for IMGs and wrote a post on alternative careers for IMGs. One of the presenters was an IMG who went through a Physician Assistant program to become an ICU PA. While she didn't cover all of your questions, you might be interested to read her thoughts on becoming a PA here. It's a little further down the post.

I hope that helps!

Default INJUSTICE ! It is the dumbest and rudest for ECFMG holders to go through PA program!

Whoever want to do it, go ahead, throw all your hard work and investment into the ECFMG away, kneel down to this naziztic and monopoly system and apply into PA and pay another $70K-80K, never know can become 100K (remember MD loan is at least 250K)! while our ECFMG over 4 USMLEs and OVER QUALIFIED than PA license! If you know PA license exam, you would laugh hard ! THEY DO OPEN BOOK AT HOME EXAM FOR SOME DAYS and SUBMIT THE TEST LATER!

If you know all that facts and you are still chicken-out and kneel down to be a slave for this SELFISH and GREEDY system, go ahead and apply and go to that way! they would be of course more than happy to welcome you to kneel down and give them money as well as your another three more years of times and YOUR DIGNITY!

this is why I ASK ANY OTHER PEOPLE CAN SEE THAT NONSENSE AND SEE THE GREEDY SYSTEM AND WANT TO FIGHT BACK, STAND WITH ME TO MAKE OUR ECFMG BE ACCEPTED IN BALLOT ! and we will work after achieved our ECFMG Certificates with all the REWARD WE DESERVED and NEVER KNEEL DOWN TO THIS GREEDY AND SELFISH SYSTEM!

we do this not only for our generations, but for the next and next generations who will come here and do licensing, they will have a way to go and do not be left behind!

I WOULD NEVER GO THROUGH A PA PROGRAM! IT IS JUST TOOOOOOOOO MMMUUUUCCCCHHHH HUMILATING and DUMBEST THING TO DO BECAUSE OF THIS GREEDY AND INJUSTICE SYSTEM!

Default same issue as Nurse Practitioner! filthy Politics playing!

The Nurse Practitioner program created as a short-term program three years was originally to dedicated and to reward towards nurses who have worked and sacrificed too long of their life time for caring patients. However, it is now also become erratic because of the greedy system. most of their NP students are little kids who just graduate from some short term biology programs!

same story with physician assistants! Physician Assistants program origianly created by two American MDs who returned from WORLD WAR TWO and they have a lot of other soldiers from WWII returning home, they created the PA program with short term training for these soldiers to settle their lives after the WWII.

these programs now have turned into very wrong directions from their original philosophy of their creator, and they now all become other satellites to the greedy system of MD training! straying away from what they should be!

This is why immigrant MDs now should have their own career in the US after they obtain ECFMG certificates, Physician Associates because they are not short-term, these MDs are mainstream training from other countries medical schools that are already accredited by ACGME and Federal Medical Board of the US. They are higher level of education. But, the greedy system does not care.

one renown MD has given an astute observation statement:

Our healthcare system is working towards where it brings in lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ !!

that is so true!

Default the ECFMG was also established the same time

the ECFMG was also established almost the same time as PA program, around 1950s! The ECFMG was for MDs immigrants. Remember the US is an immigrant-based country.

But, since it is established, the ECFMG certificates have been issued to thousands and thousands of MDs immigrants from all walks of life, all countries in the world who have immigrants with the US either for politics or refugees or whatever reason. Yet, they cannot use the ECFMG certificate for any practical and realistic purpose, but they invest quite a bit of money, time, dedication, very hard work to earn this high-valuable certificates!

that is so nonsense!

we are #1 wasting human and natural resources!
