I have the process initiated but the document list doesn't list ECFMG certificate as a document you need to upload. It doesn't matter if you are from Canada or India. The laws is the same for all who are non-US citizens/Permanant Residents. You can not appply for the J1 until you get matched into a program that offers J1. Many programs don't offer J1, in that case, you will apply for a J1 through ECFMG. You will apply for residency, attend interviews and await the match result on a visitor visa. The only advantage of being Canadian is that you dont need a visitor visa to go to the US.
