Default How important is being a green card holder

Hi guys, I was hoping those of you who have gone through the process could provide some input. Does having a green card make a huge difference in chances for residency if you score around +1SD for all the steps as opposed to a non green card holder with the same scores?? My green card will take a minimum of 6 months and I was wondering if it's important enough to delay my application an additional year. I'm a pretty old grad(2010). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was in a similar situation as you. I do think having a GC helps. Go ahead and apply now, but will you be able to attend interviews? I am Canadian so I was still able to travel to the US, but with an immigration petition ongoing, you may find it difficult to obtain a visitor visa in order to attend your interview. Being 2010 grad means that time is not on your side. I would try to apply this year. Good luck

Visa status is usually of more importance to community programs which may have financial issues. Big university/University programs have plenty of funds and usually a large number of physicians/residents working on visas. If you are a good candidate and the program considers you a good fit, you will have a chance. GC or no GC.
