Question is it possible during residency ???

can u take one yr break in residency ? ..... do they let u take break for that long ?

if ppl didnt get wat my question is


say a person started family medicine in 2010 now he wants to take break for 1 yr n continue in 2012 ...is it possible to take such long break ?

No, it's not possible. Unless for extreme circumstances such as a significant illness.

Even shorter periods not allowed.

They can't do that because if they do it, they'll lose the cycle of residents, means when you come back in 2012, there will be more in your PGY2 and less in PGY3.

So they'll never do it

from what i heard you are allowed for total of 2 week holiday each year

Each program has its regulations. Generally speaking, most programs have 2-3 weeks yearly holiday in june-july period. In addition to that, they have another type of absence in illness & Family circumstances about 2-3 weeks (even some of them up to 90 days).

But regarding one year off, I know this happens in top notch University Prgorams when you take 1 or 2 years off in order to do RESEARCH.
