Default Help needed!!

Hii Guys and Gals!! I used to frequent this forum a couple of years back when I was preparing for USMLE Step 1 and needless to say, this forum was the best I have ever come across and inputs from people here were invaluable. Well, I am in a dilemma right now!! I am a final year med school student and my USMLE Step 1 Score is 213/80 which is not impressive at all. I have already 3 months of electives with two US LoRs and 4 more months of Electives+Observerships geared up. I am currently involved in Laboratory Research Work as an Observer in home country.Well, I want to get matched in Im or Peds or IM/Peds. I have 6 publications( Case reports+reviews+images in US journal) and also peer reviewer in Indexed journals. I hope to give my CS and CK and get ECGMG Certified. But of late, my Lab PI is very enthusiastic in letting me pursue PhD in US before M.D. I have been in a fix given my step 1 scores so I am mulling about PhD too and giving GRE,but the amount of time it will consume will be herculean. I am yet to graduate and plan to apply wth some research under my belt but I don't know whether it will be wise to get PhD before applying for Residency. In case,I do,I will try to get myself ECFMG Certified before joining phD.I will Graduate in December this year. Can you please help me make my decision, whether going for residency with my not so impressive credentials will be okay or should I opt for PhD and then M.D to improve my CV??
Thanks a lot.
