It's a good score. Work hard for CK and try to do even better to be on the safe side. Good luck.

Dude, 234 is fine, just be extra careful with CS and try to score above 235-240 on CK, which is would be OK.. Based on your Step 1 score only, you might get filtered off some top IM programs that call IMGs for IV like CCF, Mayo, BU, UTSW, UPMC IST, but these are competitive programs even for AMGs and they invite very few IMGs with scores usually above 250 and/or connections inside the program..

Being a fresh grad, if you have USCE and good USLORs, you'll probably be invited to some excellent programs that call IMGs, places like UConn, UNM, U Arizona, UT San Antonio, SUNYs, SLR-NY, Einstein-Philly, Jacobi-NY, Cook County, UI Urbana, UMass, some great Florida programs..

Please understand that these are not places you'd be guaranteed to be called! I mean, it's just a compilation of places based on previous IM IVs posts and, if you search this forum, you'll have a better idea of which programs called IMG applicants with similar credentials to yours.. Getting interviews is a matter of credentials+contacts+luck!

Sometimes, even with low scores, there are programs that might be interested in you because you're able to speak certain language (Creole/Portuguese in New England programs, Spanish in AZ, NM, FL, Texas, NY) or because they have an agreement with your school (UAz and University of Jordan or your school is well known by the PDs (Aga Khan, All India, some Irish and Israeli Schools, AUB, among others) and/or the specific program have previous residents from your school/country..

So it's pretty variable! In summary, the higher you score, the more likely will be for you to be called..

thank you very much these were very encouraging as well as very informative replies may the almighty help you out in your pursuits i had another question is it better to have a 240 on ck with practically zero years since graduation(that is if i graduate and directly apply with my scores within a month since our academic year ends in june and the match process starts in september) or to get 250+ and apply with one year as years since graduation

Having no gaps in medical education is obviously more desirable. But you can not assume sitting here that you will get 240 today, and 250+ a year from now unless you know the marking scheme of USMLE exams, which no one does. So just work hard and give the exam when you are ready. 240 and 250 are both great scores and you'll get residency with either of them.

oh you failed once? i don't want to give false hope as i wouldn't want others to give it to me a few university affiliated programs that i researched categorically mentioned that all the steps must be passed on the first attempt your scores are great but this is a big drawback would filter you out of some good programs though i know a senior who matched in IM with 220s in step 1 and 240s in step 2 and failed cs once so its not all doom and gloom keep your head up and keep working for it good luck

Thanks for your honest review of the situation.

I am getting usce now, and planning to apply to only programs willing to tolerate an attempt.
