Info Transportation during interviews !

Hey all
I am an IMG .. I am done with my steps and i am planning to apply for the 2012 match season in IM. As I understood from many forums that with my potentials I am likely to be invited to 10 to 15 interviews .. my question is : How can I get around USA from one state to another and from one program to another the best way? Is it possible to rent a car? I have no credit card and i am 24 with an international driving license

Any input is welcomed !

Default You have to fly at some point

USA is a huge country. It might not be possible to move from one State to another by car, you'd have to take domestic flights.

When you get your interviews, you should try to group them together.

For example, if you get 3 in New York, 2 in New Jersey, 2 in Detroid, 2 in Ohio, 2 in Florida, and 3 in Texas. Then you should try to make the New York and New Jersey interviews together like within 2 weeks time and you should try to group Detroid and Ohio interviews similarly. Driving your car between these states is possible. Then you should take the plane to Texas and from there take another plane to Florida. Because driving from New York to Houston for example takes 25-30 of driving time!

Driving with an International Driving License is OK in US but you should not be holding US citizenship or green card, otherwise, you have to produce a US driving license.

Another tip, try to rent a motel near the hospital that you'll interview in, this will greatly minimize expenses.

Another tip, it's not always cheaper traveling by car (specially with gas prices shooting up), so always compare all the options and see which one fits you best.

Thank you for your reply

One more important point : I don't have a credit card , so do most of the IMG who get to USA for the second time in their lives ( CS being the first time ) .. How can I work with that? Any experience from IMG's who already finished their interviews ?

You can pay all your expenses (transportation, motels, meals, ..etc) by cash. However, it's recommended you get a credit card as it's more convenient and safer than carrying cash with you.
