Probability Crossing the three years postgrad years

I gave form 11 and 12 in one week gap and I got 490 in both, I am happy that I improved from 440, but I wanted a university program I know its difficult or impossible.

So I decided to go for 2012 match though I have CS date booked in June, and try one more time to cross 540, but what's bothering me is that its 2 years out of college , if i don't apply this match ...I will lose one more year next match I will be 3 1/2 out of med school, I worked for 1 year reputed hospital .

The problem is that I have seen even 3 year cut in many residency programs. So will I have very less chances to get residency 2013 match even I have triple 99s and good externships because of 3 years compared to 2 years mid 90s with observerships...

pls advice pls

Smile I choose B

So the two options that you are assuming are:

A) 2 years postgrad + mid 90s scores + observerships
B) 3.5 years postgrad + triple 99s + externships

I choose B

I read and agree with above notes and cosign them ;-). Don't hurry you still have time but make sure you don't make clinical gaps in your CV.

I have a similar question...i graduated in 2010...taking step1 in december...but not happy with my prep...should i concentrate on an early yog or a better score?...i know obviously a better score but then ill be almost 4-5 years out of med college...in which i have worked fultime resident for one n a half years.

I am not an expert. But my 2 cent is, first you should concentrate on good scores and then on year of graduation, old grad is a problem especially if you are more than five years from med school. But first increase your chances with better scores. If you are planning to write step 1 in December and you need more time for preparation, to increase your score, you may need one or max two months to get 99s.

but if your scores are poor, your application will automatically be filtered out. So first step is score, increase your score and if you are with in five years of graduation when you apply, you will be fine. But year by year, match is becoming a difficult goal
