They are a little behind this year like a lot of other programs. They should be sending interviews soon I think.

Default should i apply?

Hello Guys
I am a regular reader of usmle-forums, I owe a lot to these forums. But this is my first post.
I am an IMG with YOG 2013 and both step scores of low 250s. I will get CS results in late Nov and get ECFMG certified. I have good performance in my med school and got 1 US Lor but no publications.
What do u suggest?
I am thinking of applying in early December although its late. What are my chances for IM?
I would be glad to take the most low tier university program, I am little hesitant but will even take community program if I can match this year.
Need your help frens: which programs should I apply? how many?

So far, the match this year has been tough. You have excellent scores. You are a recent grad. These are two very strong points but given the circumstances I would not apply this year if I were you.
In this one year, try getting as much USCE as you can - the more the better. Get Step 3 out of the way - this increases your chances of matching at community hospitals (atleast this is what I hear from a lot of people) and add research experience. Apply next year and with these excellent credentials, you will hopefully match.
However, DO UNDERSTAND that this is my personal opinion. Ask around before you make a decision.

Welcome here first. I think you would be an excellent candidate for University programs.
Here is my advise:
If you have the money , apply. If you are going to apply, then apply to University programs too especially with your qualifications. Do not just apply to Community programs.

You can always work on your resume and try next next year too.

Best of luck

Please do apply. Your step 1 score is really good. A lot of the programs use step 1 as a cut off. So even if you apply late, your application will get looked at.

As long deadlines have not passed for programs, do go ahead and apply. Who knows you will match this year itself and be done with the process!

Good Luck.

Your best bet would be to apply next year. Having great scores but no clinical experience is a minus, since you are competing against many us grads and carribean grads who do their rotations in us. I would spend this year getting more usce, and finalizing the ecfmg certification process, so that when next year match comes, you are ready. Also, by next year you will still meet the 2 year cut off that many programs prefer. Best of luck!

With those credentials and willingness to take a community program if it means to match this year, then yea, apply for sure.

There's no way you won't get a few interviews. A match isn't guaranteed because it depends on the interview itself. But double 250s is bound to widen many eyes of people that will subsequently grant you an invite.

If you wait till next year, the chances of matching at a better place might happen. But you can also match at a pretty decent place still if you apply this year. Your scores are just way too good to pass by. Money is the only factor that should make you think things through. If you're ok with letting those bucks go (like an expensive lottery)- then apply.

To be honest, early december is waaaaaaay too late. Even with your score, programs may not even look at your application when the programs already have their IV slots filled and already have waitlisted people.

IMO, go for next year. Why settle for mediocre program when with your stellar credentials you can find better place? you are recent graduate too. As long as you're < 3 YOG by the time you apply, you should be good.

Do something to strengthen your CV this year.

Did anyone interview at Presence St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, IL? I'd be very grateful if someone can share his or her experience there.

The longer you wait, the harder it will be to match with each consecutive year. Please apply, email the program stating your interest immediately after you apply, and let them know that you have submitted your application

Good luck. Wish I had gotten your scores .

Default 14th interview

Interview at Orange Park Medical Center, FL.

In a dilemma if I should go for the interview or not. It's near Jacksonville and that seems a little far for me to travel (my base is in the NY area)

It's also a new program.

Most programs finish their interviews by Dec so you won't b even looked at. Save the money for next year. Finish step 3, get tons of usce and apply next year.

I did, and I really like the program. Everyone is nice, it is a very organized program and they are very friendly. The day concludes around 1-2pm. You attend morning report, then you have a tour around the hospital, a presentation about the program, and then IV with one faculty member (PD or associate PD).

No medical/ethical/WTF questions, only simple, regular interview questions to know about you.

Info What is the purpose of such a question?

hello everyone,
during interview if interviewer asked you " how many interviews you got?" what did he want to know from this question and what is the best answer to it?

Isn't that an illegal question? I usually answer: I have some.... No numbers, of course. As I don't think that's a relevant question.

I was asked last week. I just said 5, a random number. He did not ask where.

Not sure why they ask. Maybe they are trying to assess how competitive you are...

I don't know if the number I say affects my ranking at that program.

If they rank me based on the number of interviews I say I have got, then someone help them

Default Question

Guys, I have a question:
I went for two interviews and they went well. Two days after interviews, I sent thank you letter to those people who I had interview with but nobody ever answered my emails. Do you have the same experience in your interviews?
Does this mean something bad? because my interview went well.

yea.. i understand that worry. i am going through same thought process myself... as i am sure most of us are. i have been hearing whether or not you hear or not has no bearing in the ranking process - although that doesn't make me feel any better

I know some programs have some rules not to answer applicants after interviews but why do they give us their emails and say please contact us if you have any questions???!!!!

They are busy people...i think some people get replies and some don't but it has no bearing on your status imo from what i have read and watched online.

Also e-mail again close to when they rank their lists saying how interested you are, and some special things you talked about in the interview

Do they give out their emails themselves? Or are we supposed to ask? And should we ask everyone's emails...whoever we met on that day and thank them all?

Roughly 48% IMG, that's what FRIEDA says anyways.
The program is nice. Research opportunity, strong academics, in the Houston medical center, the hospital is very big.

Just some things I know.

Same here. Contacting PD and Coordinators sounds more like waste of time too. They don't respond to emails or phone calls. If they do, then You will hear "NO" from them.

Hey everybody, I have a quick question. It may be a bit premature to ask this, but can we participate in SOAP and select programs we have never interviewed at?

I think as long as you have applied through ERAS to atleast one program in the current cycle, you are eligible to take part in the SOAP.

They have a one on one interview with two faculty members at GBMC. The PD does not interview you. And they do ask clinical questions. Good luck.

Lol! I've been laughing for a few minutes.

Yea, I agree, that's really cruel. A bit funny though how they sent out 2300 invitation emails. That's crazy.

Maybe they wanted to send it to 10 - 15 candidates
and pressed the wrong button (something like reply all)
I wonder who the lucky ones whom they intended to send

It's not a joke. It's not funny at all. We all put all effort both physically and mentally for this journey. They should be careful, but just pressing a wrong button, made many candidates dream to go interview. This is too bad!

It also means they are not professional. Some people are not organized and trust me, you are not going to like to work for them.

I am sure there some of those who did not receive an invitation so far and this one from Greater Baltimore was there first. It is frustrating. The coordinator should have checked to whom she is sending the invite can't be more that 20 at a time!. It took her about an hour to respond and figure out the mistake?

Keep up the spirit and Inshallah you will get an invite. Don't loose hope just yet. People have received their first invite in Feb and matched.

Alhamdulillah.

Idk,

It's sad for sure, but it's a mistake and it can happen to anyone. I don't think that this mistake makes the program unorganized. Hasn't that happened to most of us even when we delete emails/files? You check-mark all boxes. I've seen it happen in previous match seasons. He/She must've been distracted. What's funny for me is imagining their faces of shock when they noticed they had done the mistake - It is not funny to play with people's emotions. Somebody in another forum posted about calling family members with the great news.

Help Quick question

Hey all..Quick question..Has anyone got an interview without contacts simply by calling the programs at this moment? Will calling make a difference or is the season over?
I am running low of options with just 2 ivs in hand
P.S - I already emailed most of the programs with no response.

I can't speak for your experiences, but I interviewed at GBMC today and PD interviews everyone. And there is a clinical scenario, but it's very interesting and quite enjoyable if you love to think and critically analyze. I didn't come close to the right answer I'm sure but i still enjoyed the opportunity to really think.
