Question

I have MSPE uploaded and Deans LOR as well. Can I use Deans LOR as one of the LORs to apply to programs or its better to use professor's LOR from med school?

Hi,

My med school FINALLY uploaded my transcript and MSPE and they were both available immediately for programs to view, according to ADTS. However, when I actually try to apply to programs on myERAS, I do not have the option of assigning these 2 things to programs. I can only choose amongst my LORs and personal statement for assigning to programs. Is this something normal, or am I doing something wrong here? Please do help. Thanks in advance

I think eras will send these 2 document itself because mine was uploaded couple of weeks back and they are not showing at the program page.
We dont need to assign them.
We need to assign Ps, lors, usmle transcript and photo.

Thanks for the reply.

Btw is it ok to apply to only the categorical part in the selected programs?

Also, what is the link of applying to nrmp? I know we,re supposed to apply on the 15th but I couldn't find the link anywhere.

What is this supposed to mean:

Internal Med/Sisters|3099140C5 (Categorical)

Also, I have another question. Some programs have a primary care- categorical division while others have just primary care and yet others have just categorical. Any difference amongst these three?

Further, some hospitals fall under one big hospital, so I cannot find their ACGME numbers. How are we supposed to apply to them?

No USCE but 2 US LoRs (waived, from faculty members of Uni programs) and 2 from ABIM certified internists
What do you think if a program asks for 1-2 months USCE ? Is it strict ?
Like Lahey clinic, West Virginia Uni ?
Your credentials are great, apply anyway. Even I don't have "hands-on USCE", I'm still applying to programs which ask for it. If they explicitly say Observerships/Research do not count then I'm not applying, unless it's a big university name in the locations I want.

Also, I have heard that some programs don't start reviewing the apps right away on the 15th, but give it a few days to compile...so we may have a bit of a lee-way after all.

Good luck
Luckily mine are uploaded, I'm waiting on a 4th from an attending in a teaching hospital and I'm not sure he has even uploaded it yet. I am applying on the 15th anyway with the 3 I have. If and when the 4th is available I will send them to programs later.

How many of you are using letters from home med school? I think I would rather use that than one from a private clinic in the US.

Default foreign national

In eras profile section they ask for the visa status of ppl currently in usa..but if you chose the other option..as in foreign national they don't ask for the visa status.I do have a valid visa but i am not in states right now.
is it gonna make any difference in my application if i chose the second one...as in do programs call ppl for interview who are already in usa?
or shud i go for the first option instead?

Hi guys: I have a question regarding which LOR combination is best:

-I have done 3 years of residency in my home country, and worked with a US professor from a major academic center during this time (in 2010) who has written me a good letter
-I have a letter from my prog director from my home country, but whom i never worked with directly
-I have a very strong letter from a UK EM physician whom i have been working with over the past year after leaving residency
-2 other US LORs, both program directors at top 15 university programs in the US from doing observerships there

Which unfortunately totals 5.

My question is whether the letter from my home program director is needed, given that the rest of my letters are from people i have worked with directly, and this is the letter id most like to not use. Do you think a PD letter from home residency is completely necessary, esp as i have a letter from a US physician from this time (although it was right at the start of the program that i worked with him)?

If you use your us lor then it would be of greater benefit than home lors that what program directors prefer

Default Neurology lor for im

Hey guys, I hope all of you are really busy preparing your application for 15 th September . I need to know whether I can use my a neurology LOR for IM. I know I can but the problem is it is a very steong LOR from a university professor and I have other lors from private physicians. I have 5 US lors but this is the only one from university so I wanted to use that but now I think it might hurt my chances in IM. I am planning to apply for 30 neurology program and will use this LOR but again for My IM programs I will have only private physicians LORS.Right now I am doing an externship at a program directors clinic but will nit be able to use that LOR. Out of those 4 lors 2 are from university professors clinic. What you guys suggest?

Default When does ECFMG certify?

Hi, I'm looking at IM programs.
Step 1 238
Step 2 CK - taken on Sep 3rd, scores out max by 30th Sep
Step 2 CS- Pass 1st attempt
Need H1 and J1 visa
USCE 2 months
2 publications
2 LoRs uploaded in the next week
1 LoR already uploaded
MSPE not yet gotten
Trancript uploaded
Will be getting my medical diploma only in october after my convocation.

Will be certified by ECFMG after my step 2 ck result is out, or will I need to get my degree first? Can I apply to programs immediately after my Step 2 CK is out? I'm worried that by the time my degree comes and I start the whole certification process, it'll get too late.

I think you need your degree verified for ECFMG certified.
Also you need to clear step 3 by feb to be eligible for H1 and according to the new format thats not possible now since you wont get results before april

You need your medical diploma to be ecfmg certified. And ecfmf certified to apply to all programs. I think you need to wait for next year. Your application will come in too late for programs

If the LoR that you want to use does not specifically say that you are going to apply to neuro, then I think it is OK that you use it for IM, specially if the other 2-3 LoR are from IM doctors.

again i think its a good time to focus on previous years interviews.

Please lets keep this thread worth checking it all the time. is this okay is that okay please lets stop the desparation lets just focus on programs and interviews.. now is the time when I dont even check for any program requirements and apply to as many programs as I can. I have pitfalls but people assured me that they are not that important. anything can show up anywhere so lets do it .
Im just taking final review on this programs and if i missed any one of them on my applicaiton list just tucking them on myeras.

Can we select both categorical and primary tracks in a program? Do we have to select only one of them in a program?

I can only choose amongst my LORs and personal statement for assigning to programs. Is this something normal, or am I doing something wrong here? Please do help. Thanks in advance
For this u have to give ur right for ECFMG to transfer them. Just look at misc. block in application page of ur ERAS account.

Piggy backing on this, could we make a list of people on this thread applying for IM 2015 match with their credentials, and we could periodically update the list with interview calls as the calls come in? I could start up on it and make a list out of people who have already posted here.

I would also request all posters to edit their signature to include their credentials (like mine and many other posters have) to help in easy understanding/differentiation. (These are all things i noticed last years match people do on the forum).

With that said, below is the list of all the posters on this thread with their credentials. Feel free to edit and add on as you please, just make sure the when you repost this with new information that the new information be in a different colored font for differentiation of what's new.

We could use this same list to update with interview calls when the season enters full flow. If it gets too chaotic (assuming all of you participate) we could move it on to Google Docs or some place for ease of use and clarity.

Guys,

I need your opinion
I have two waived LoRs from US and I am assuming that both of them wrote that I rotated with them this august '14 (which I actually did). how will this affect my application? Am I allowed to do two rotations within one month? No idea what to do. Will appreciate any feedback! Thank you!

Mention in your work experience in your Myeras application the detail that how did you manage to do work two rotations. And total hours/week. This should clarify.

In the same program ... I think you should not.You may apply to different speciality as there programs coordinator and directors will be different but for IM it will be same for both primary and cat positions so avoid that, I gues.

Hello Guys! Best of luck with the match process. I am not applying this year, but I was just wondering one thing; is it true that florida hospital orlando only ranks those with both step scores in 260s/270s?

Guys, there are some programs that mention they want X months of USCE. Is it something strict or should we still apply for them?

Does it matter if we apply in the morning of sept 15 or the evening. I mean when they say it's good to apply as soon as possible, does it matter if it gets delayed by a few hours. I wanted to know if I needed to take leave from hospital on Monday or it's fine to do the process in the evening.

You will have to wait till the 15th I guess. Recheck whatever you have to and relax!

Default Question: how many programs?

14 years graduation, 246/238/CS, 9 years US clinical experience, one strong ROL, three so-so.
How many programs will you apply for, for the old graduates (green card holder) ? (50/100/150/200?)

Default Applying to 85 university programs - enough?

Dear all, I am applying to 85 university programs. I know a lot of people are applying to 100, 120, maybe 150... I am on a tight budget and want to save money for later on when I'm on the interview trail. Do you honestly think I'll stand a chance to get at least 10 - 15 interviews? Seems like usually ~10% of candidates called to interview at a given place end up matching there. How many programs are everyone else applying for?

Thanks so much for your advice!

I would apply as soon as possible, just to be sure that your app is one of the first to go through

I think that you should go ahead and apply. I am in the same situation with my diploma. Many programs require ECFMG prior to ranking in february, so if you get it by then (which I am sure) then you will be just fine.

my step 1 result comes out on Wednesday. Should I apply then or apply on 15th and wait for my step 1 result to be updated on my application?

Firstly, this is a tricky situation, since Step 1 is crucial for your app. Step 1 is the first screening barrier because some US grads dont have CK at the time of application and the programs resorted to Step 1 as the requirement.

Secondly, I am not so sure about all the programs, but some, dont start looking at the apps exactly on the 15th, instead they give it a few days - so that could give you a lee-way of updating your app in time before the programs look at your app. However, in order for them to see your updated score, they'll have to download it again...which in turn may raise another issue.

My personal opinion is that maybe two days of wait may not big such a big deal in the end. Maybe its better to play it safe and wait until Wednesday to send them out.

Hope this helps,

Good luck

I know it's premature to be worrying about this but I was just googling what to wear on a residency interview and I came across articles on how to be prepared for interviews. It all seems so overwhelming I don't know if I can do it. I don't lack confidence at all in my everyday dealings but now I think I would be dumb during the interviews especially if they asked med questions like treatment of such an such. Of course I cleared steps and I know the treatment but I would need to revise everything from upto date before I go on an actual interview. I am growing nervous about this whole thing now. first wait to get an interview call and then get grilled in them and then the grueling wait for the match day. Steps were way easier than this.

Its funny because I called them at exactly 9 am (I was having difficulties accessing myERAS since last night) and asked whether their servers may be overloaded, and they said that there is a very small chance and thus its very unlikely. Instead, they said it might have been a problem with my network more likely than anything

Well, after 2 hrs of struggle, I logged in, selected each of 230 programs and checked a bunch of questions without even reading it..and in the last step, it stopped working..Imagine the frustration!!!

If the payment went through successfully, you should get a confirmation email from ERAS apparently.

I'm so surprised the website crashed on the day of application...It was sooo bad that they had to shut down the website for maintenance..That's unbelievable!! I know its hard to relax, but guys, ERAS has notified the programs, so try to relax..I'm sure this won't affect the applicantions.

Guys, do you think many of us actually applied? I couldn't and I was wondering how it would affect me in reality? With all the hype of applying 9 AM stat, do you really think that matters a lot? What if say, someone applies within this week? Would it be too different than applying the moment ERAS opens?
