I meant that I prefer the quiet over rejections. I almost hate to see anything in my inbox because its probably another rejection. So far, I've got the one from Tallahassee for FM. And about 3 more for Peds. So...yeah. Quiet is >> than rejections.

Default Unreal! Seems like everybody applied to FM this year!

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your message.
Due to the large number of applications we receive, we follow these steps
during the interviewing season:

1. We review applications on a weekly basis. Considering that we already have
more than 1,600 applications for six spaces, the review process can take
several weeks.

2. We determine which applicants to interview by telephone. Both faculty
members and current residents participate in telephone interviewing.

3. After the telephone interviews, we choose a small number to invite for a
personal interview.

I understand that you must be eager for an update on your application - but
please be patient with us. Given the overwhelming number of applications we
receive, the process is inherently slow. Only a small percentage of
applicants will be chosen for telephone interviews. An even smaller
percentage will be called in for personal interviews.

If we need additional information, or if you are chosen for an interview, we
will contact you immediately.

Thank you for your patience. Best wishes in your search for the residency
program that is perfect for you.

holy cow, mind if I ask which program that was for? And yes it seems FM is far more competitive this year then previous years. Is it due to merits? perhaps new Affordable Health Care Act?

They don't sponsor visas, thats why I didn't apply there. Only 3 FM programs do in that state.

They probably have a great rural tract program. If wilderness medicine is the goal then I think Wyoming is a great place to excel in that field. That being said, its not for me

Default Applying to FM

Got my ck results today (24th), so I'm considering myself a "late applicant".

My credentials are as following:

Step 1= 230

My step scores not good 190/212/cs pass all first attempt 72 weeks USCE yog 2013. I applied to 134 programs Family med. Do you guys think I should apply to other specialties like IM and psych ? is it even worth it to apply to other programs with such low scores?

Your USCE and YOG should help you out a lot for FM....id say just be patient...only ppl getting interviews right now our 230 +

its annoying and worrying for sure, but just wait...is my opinion

Penn State & Tallahassee
Also for the person asking about whether or not the documents are bolded or grey on ADTS, both programs have mine bolded so I don't actually know what the significance is with the change in color

Hi. I shared my credentials in my previous post if you scroll up (yes I need a visa). I don't know if that really makes a difference, as long as you pass everything. I know people who did not do as well on boards but they're still getting IV. I think it's easier for American citizens or green card holders, and harder for Canadian IMG's because of the whole visa issue. But don't get discouraged, my inbox was quiet since my first IV on the 19th.

codeblue your a caribbean student and US citizen like me? Your getting IV without ECFMG cert? Must be one of the big 4?

I had a terrible time finishing because I went to a school that lost Sallie mae student loans and it took me extra time to get the money to finish.

I had to get Step 3 done to get a shot this year plus it does not hurt to have some connections.

I am a Caribbean Canadian IMG (I need a visa), I will be graduating in 2015 and I did not take any time off (4 yrs of med school in total). I don't have any connections. I have decent step scores, I have 2 yrs of USCE. I have always wanted to do family medicine so a lot of my longterm extracurricular activities show that. I have a lot of clinical experience fr. my previous occupation prior to attending medical school. I don't know what the big 4 is. I don't know how divulging all of my credentials will help you. I don't know what each PD that invites me for an interview is thinking, but I think they can tell if you really want to do family medicine or you're just applying to it as a "back up" or "alternative". I wish you well & goodluck we're all in this together & it's tough out there for IMGs.

This is depressing. Up to this point, I still got nothing. ( I am happy for those who are getting invites... For those who are like me, let's believe it's not over yet.. Keep hoping and praying... This journey is emotionally draining than any of the experiences i have gone through.

I agree with you, I think our scores and personal details do not matter. I too have a lot of pre med school medical experience ( RN for 20 years). Scores only go so far, its the whole package to many programs good luck. ( yes I advise to not post scores and school too it really does not help anyone anyway except to figure out who you are sometimes)

Too early to feel this way, some programs are not sending IV yet, maybe early rejections , Many IV will happen during OCT, have patience

For the applicants who have usce did you guys put your clerkships in the work history section? I'm just trying to think of things that may be affecting my application.

LOL at the people insinuating that having nursing experience is more valuable than scores. In that case any nurse would be more qualified then any student without healthcare experience other then medical school. This is not true. I received two interviews so far. One of my interviews I received later then less qualified applicants. I guess it depends on when they get to your application and if it is complete enough for them. Also it seems that programs tend to favour certain schools. I wish everyone luck and patience is the key. If you have good scores and USCE then it is simply a waiting game.

I don't think anyone was insinuating that. If you read carefully people are just stating that they have clinical experience prior to med school & as DRFP said, it's your whole application not a specific aspect.
But I do agree with you about it being a waiting game, there's really just no way to tell when you're going to get invited. lol

Yep its the whole app if
you get past screeners and read by the PD

I spent a lot of time considering my whole app this year and hope its good enough now to get a couple IVs

I re-read the statement and you are correct that it only states the persons own application includes clinical experience in the past. I apologize for that. I do agree that the whole application is important however different programs value different things. Thats why its hard for us to compare our applications to each other. Some programs prefer FMG over Caribs or vice versa. Some programs prefer DO's over IMG's. I think as IMG's their are some things that we can't control such as our birthplace or our medical school. However their are programs may prefer that. Also certain parts of the application are more important than others. Step scores and LORs show knowledge which is vitally important.
Anyways waiting is getting quite stressful.
