Do we need anything specific to be able to apply in Mississippi programs? Something like PTAL letter because most programs keep saying "Graduates who hold an unrestricted Mississippi license" can apply to their program.

Thanks.

Save your money. Trust me it works the other way around. But you really have a good feeling, and think its not too late, go for it. But I would tread carefully.
Im saying this because ive applied to both. Even though FM is my primary objective, IM hasn't been working out as a 2nd option either. I have strong LORs for it as well and one especially directed towards IM from an Internist.

You'll have better luck getting an answer if you post this as a thread. I would answer it, if I knew the answer with certainty.

Well it's good to know they send rejections... Since I sent my application a week later than yours... I'll be expecting mine in near future.

Hey bro/sis,
Don't feel discouraged. Its still way to early. I'm taking comfort in the fact that not many IV's have been given out to IMG's in particular. This makes me think that they are really reading through the entire application and trying to perceive commitment to specialty.

Hang in there. I just got my first interview and my scores are low. But there has to be something in my application that they liked for them to invite me out. (BTW not given through contacts)

I really don't wish to share my IV location.. sorry.

Good luck everyone!

I figured out why so many programs were rejecting me, and basically screening me out. Hopefully, that issue is resolved or will be within a few days and I've stopped hemorrhaging programs.

Even so, yep, I'm definitely drafting up my plan B. Mostly includes re-applying next year, Step 3, and more US LORs.

Plan C is to look into finding a spot somewhere else in the world. I have a cousin who learned German for a year, and then went to Germany.

Why do you think they were screening you out?

Your scores aren't bad, you're a new graduate, and you've got a ton of usce which are great. Apply widely and you've got about as good a chance as the rest of us visa-needing people.

Thanks.
I know the program, they do not usually match IMGs

If they say what you said, it means you have to be licensed to practice medicine in Mississippi before matching.

I have seen this requirement for IMGs in other programs in other state as well.

Default best wishes

Congratulations to all who got interviews. God luck to everyone. Hope! Is it better to apply mid november having usce. Or should I apply since s3ptember without it and then update my profile? Glad to hear responses.

Rejection - Hennepin County Medical Center- FM Program - Minneapolis, MN

Do you think that the majority of FM interviews are starting to come out now? This FM forum is so quiet.

Is it just me or Family Medicine interviews are just not coming by. Has anybody in this thread or forum received more than 1 or 2 interviews for Family medicine so far?

I'm feeling rediculous. No interviews here.
Another rejection at 2:21 am in morning last night from UAB Huntsville.
This going to be stupid. I feel like I'm not going to receive anything unless I try emailing them or something which is also not going to help!

I'm glad that I have a job. But I definitely feel it for those who are not!'

Got that same rejection at 330 am

Feel like I wasted four grand total in applications, don't think I'm going to get a single Iv other then the couple I will have thru contacts

It's my fault tho, I thiught I would apply to IM with scores in the 210s...obviously score is the most impt factor...and my whole cv is geared towards Im..;prob gonna wait till end of next month to see how things shape up and then do usce in psych...at least I would have a fighting chance there...sucks so badly

No bro it's hard for most people with below average or average scores. Having a contact does not help much. In my case I actually work in a hospital that IMG friendly and yet, I did not get interview. Contact does not help much apparently except in a very small cases.
I applied to IM, Psychiatry and FM. I had excellent personal statements written for each branch and it did not help much either. I think being old IMG is the biggest blow for me even though I have MPH.

As much as I love medicine, especially Pediatrics, it IS just a job at the end of the day. After being in school so long and being a dependent, I just really want to have a good paying job so that I can stop parasitizing my poor family, inshaAllah.

And loool about them emailing at 2:21 am. Don't worry buddy, a Peds program sent me 7 rejections yesterday. 7!

These programs are too heartless sometimes.

Damn that sucks man...yeah I have one contact that I'm about 80 percent sure will get me an interview so that's one good thing....sucks man, work this hard for so many years and ur whole future depends on those two usmle exams...prepared my best for them also so don't know what I would have done differently

Let's see what happens, that's all we can do

Its never too late to update your contact information on ERAS! Thats the one part of your application u can change even after u submit everything. Cheers!

Not sure if programs update your contact information but ERAS kept that part of the section open for modification.

Yeah but all the programs will be sending information to his or her other email unless he calls or emails every program telling them he's changing his email address but that can be tricky cuz sometimes they don't read all their emails

You were aiming at IM but did you have any FM letters for your application? Does anyone know how PDs will look at somebody who applied with all non-FM letters.. Just wondering because I'm in the same boat.

Nope, didn't have any fm letters....but two of my im letters are kinda of generic although the clinical experience I did was with internists at a hospital and at a private clinic. I didnt apply to any fm place that specifically said they wanted fm letters....fm is very hard for people with yog more then 2 years.

Damn... Is anybody getting ANY iv's for family medicine this year. This is just hard to believe. It's almost end of Oct, really starting to lose hope... And I'm a really optimistic person unlike those who've been complaining since sept 16th.

I got two FM IVs, but both were given around the end of sept. I havent heard diddly squat from any where since. NO ack, no reject in FM, nothing at all. With IM, at least you get rejects every now and then, but with FM, nothing at all.

I'd say judging by how this thread is going it almost feels like FM is more competitive than IM, especially for non usimgs.

I'm saying this from the perspective of a future Canadian applicant.

Don't worry my friends.

Most of us will hear back from the programs in the month of November!

Hang in there! Good luck everyone!

at least 1 FM letter with rotation in FM is HIGHLY recommended.

Not a good idea to change your email. Most programs will have your old email address.

Some of the programs will send invitations directly to your email and bypass ERAS.

I'm finding that majority of the rejections I'm receiving are through ERAS message center, while the invitations are directly to your email.

Look at your situation in a different light. You invested four grand in applications to ensure that you pursued all avenues of your future/career. When you match, you won't have to look back and think "I wish I had applied to more programs".

Default Question

Guys, I have a question,

Some of us including me applied for two or more specialties, during interview if interviewer asked what specialty else did you apply? or Did you apply for another specialty?
what should we answer to these questions? Should I answer NO? is there anyway to find I am not telling the truth for them?
Thanks.

Definitely say no...only say yes if you applied to that same hospital in both specialties cause then if they find out you were lying you can get in trouble....they probably will not ask this question though as they know especially us imgs need to apply broadly.
