Hmm.... not sure about this one. I think I would tell the truth, but state straight up that I am interested in "primary care" and as an IMG- I want to try to apply to as many programs as possible. However, I am primarily interested in fam med bc so and so .... my 2 cents.

If anybody did, they would have replied. Plus you'd have a better chance making a separate thread where other people can see your question not just the FM applicants.

Default Question

Guys, I have a question:
What is the percentage of programs which they will answer to our application? (I mean any answer including IV and rejection). For example, if somebody applies for 200 programs, usually how many programs will answer him?

Thanks.

Question. Why are people so happy for 1 interview? Its almost the same as none. You should be happy when you have more than 5. No???

If some people are unhappy with five interviews, I doubt that the ones with only 1 are ecstatic about it.
There a difference between being happy with one interview vs. being grateful for that one interview.

Lol, And even if they are "happy" about it, they have every reason to be. An interview is an interview.
If you had an interview would you not go to it since to you it would equal to having zero interviews?

This one interview will become two and three when they come in one by one.. I say its always better to count your blessings than cry about the ones you already have.

I know someone who applied for gen surg. Non-US citizen. 1 interview. 2 spots. He matched.

All you need is that one interview is what I'm getting at.

I applied only to FM as thats my interest. Looking at the competitiveness of this making me have second thoughts. Is it too late to apply to other specialties now? Money is the issue here.

Hello everyone... I am worried that at this point I still dont have invites yet... I applied Sept 16, average scores on 1st attempt, 2012 grad, img, need visa, only 2 mos usce... I only heard from 2 programs out of 51 fm programs both of which are rejections... Would anyone in this forum know if they still send invites on Nov or Dec? Anyone in the same boat as me? 2 out of 50 is a small number for the usual rate of rejections from what I have learned from previous year's forum... I am in a very sad situation but im still keeping a little hope... God bless us all!

Why only 51? i think an average img applies for about 110-120ish programs. And 2 rejections from 51 programs sounds about right. its about 4% so far. I applied to about 140ish ive received 9 so far which is about 6.5%. And not all programs bother to send rejections. Keep that in mind.

I saw some posts regarding University of Illinois Rockford rejections. I haven't received any thing from them, no ack, no rej. Do programs send rejections to some and silently reject others?

It's because of my limited usce and year of grad and visa issues... Wow this is really a bad situation..

Is placing your status "on hold" means subtle rejection?

Not necessarily, but essentially majority will be?

I have a couple hold's. One ended up turning out to be an invitation.

I asked some people who matched last year, and they said that some of these, they heard back late November and even December (last minute) as people cancelled their interviews.

Hey dr O, would you please tell the wording that was used in the email that they sent to inform you that you were on "hold" aka "waitlist".

thanks

AMGs applying to FM have heard from the following NY FM programs (I have not heard from any of these so far, nor from any other FM programs in the NYC area):

Beth Israel 10/29
Ellis Medicine 9/26
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center - 10/9
University at Buffalo 9/26
University of Rochester/Highland Hospital of Rochester 9/18
Mid Hudson- Kingston 10/13
Ellis Program- Schenectady, New York- 10/9

Unhappy Why so quiet?

Guys, seriously, I'm usually a patient person, but no interviews up until now is extremely worrisome. It seems like anyone requiring a visa is in the same boat.

Should we chalk this up to a late start to reviewing applications or something more? Anyone have any info?

What are you all doing in this situation? I need some ideas! haha

No one can accurately pinpoint the rarity of invites to some, including ourselves. Well, we know the answers: no visa, low scores, old grad.. but really no one can tell because a lot of people still do match despite the odds. All we can do is wait and hope for the best. I know this is a difficult time for you. Pray if you must, secure a Plan B.

Theres no way that only one program has given IVs for people who need visas. Could somebody please update the list with their IVs?

Another aspect that should be considered in the lists of applicants should be # of applicants sent. That gives us a better idea of the ratio of Apps:IV.

Me too. But don't be down. Our job is to do the best we can, and then leave the rest up to God. If it is good for us, it will work out, and if it isn't, God Would Protect us from it.

All that happened, is what was meant to happen. And it was good for us.

Just put your energy and hopes on next year's application, or your plan B. And know that whatever works out for you in the end, it is good for you.
