Warning! Did not match first time, what're chances the second time?

Making this thread for a friend of mine who didn't match this past year. Her stats are the following:

S1: 210
S2: 231
CS: 1st attempt pass
US Citizen
Caribbean-IMG graduate
No research
No other red flags

Told her to do something during the year off such as research and what not, but she isn't. Rather just sitting at home and waiting for September 15th of this year, again. The first time she applied she wasn't ECFMG certified. However, she is now.

Hi I had similar credentials when I applied last year and ended up not matching. I wasn't ecfmg certified either. Also a Carib IMG. I had 4 Ivs last year but didn't match. How many IVs did your friend have?

Decent scores, fresh graduate, no visa problems. Did she apply for IM? I don't see why your friend didn't match. Maybe she applied to <50-100 programs or maybe her interviews didn't go well.

Well her reasoning was that when she applied, she didn't receive her CS score yet. I guess that means she wasn't ECFMG certified when she applied. Only thing I could think of as to why she didn't match.

However, her just sitting at home all day and not doing anything - what're the chances of her matching the second time around? Trying to tell her to be proactive and go do something during the year, but guess not.

I think the only reason that she did not match the first time was because she was NOT ECFMG certified. With those good credentials, she will match for sure the second time no problem, now that she has ECFMG certified.

I don't know. Her scores are quite below average, for IM, if you ask me. FM may be possible. Also, doesn't your success of matching decrease significantly if you didn't match the first time around? Just wonder what she'll say when the PD asks her, "what did you do during your time off".
