Default Maximum 3 Month USCE Rule for NY Residency

So I am in the final year of MBBS, already gave step 1, so was looking into visiting clerkships/externships lately so I could do them next year.

From a colleague I heard that You cannot do More than 3 months of clerkships/externships outside your home institution to be eligible to apply for any residency spot in the State of New York.

Is this true? I am worried because I was planning on doing at least 4 from good places in order to supplement my app well. I don't want to limit my options in anyway and New York does have a fair amount of residency spots.

If it is true, how would they ever confirm/know if you have done more than 3?

Dont know where your friend got that from but havent heard anything of the sort. Im applying to NY Programs this match, programs list their requirements on their websites...much more likely to find a MINIMUM required USCE than maximum...doesnt make any sense at all to me and sounds like total crap IMO
