Stop There's no such thing

This information is certainly wrong.

I myself know three people matched this year into University Internal Medicine Programs and they all got less than 250 in Step 1 Exam.

Also, remember, there's no such rule ever in the history of matching. Each program has different criteria and each program's criteria changes from to year to year.

this rumor is wrong .. the average score for AMG's in step 1 is around 220 .. IM is not a competitive residency so this will push the average a little bit lower, but AMG's are more competitive than IMG's so this will push the average a little bit higher .. all in all, a good 230+ is all what you need to guarantee some interviews, higher is better, lower is not excluding

Question

Hi,
I don't know exactly but isn't it related which university (or hospital) you're going to get admission?
What about surgical sciences?
Thanks

If this could make you feel better... I know an internist, IMG (from my country), who got 75 in Step 1. Understandably, he had to apply for matches a few times before he got accepted into IM. Now he works for the Dept of Veterans Affairs.

There is no such thing as that. Maybe if you are considering only the top 10-20 (Harvard, Hopkins etc.).
Other university programs do consider you for interview if your credentials are good. They don't necessarily have to be 99/250+. I know some IMGs who got matched this year at university programs in IM and FM with good USMLE scores (225-230) but they were NOT 250+.
These are only the ones that I know. I am sure they will be a lot more and even those hardworking ones who have 90+ scores with loads of research experience and observerships with good LORs.

There are many University programs in the US, and even if you match at the "relatively lower ranked" as compared to Harvard and all, you still have many many chances to get great fellowship opportunities at your own university program. Or if you do good, you could go to the TOP most fellowship program after your residency.
Plus, people who do residencies at community programs and do it really well, they can also get fellowships at Univ programs.
So no set rule for anything. Don't lose hope ever and strive for your goals. You will succeed IA.
