Resident Accommodation during residency

Hi

Generally speaking, do most residency programs provide their residents with accommodation? I know it differs among programs but as a general trend, do residency programs provide their residents with apartments or is this an exception ?

it makes a huge difference specially in areas like NY ( where many IMG-friendly programs are ) .. apartment rentals up there will cost half of the monthly pay if not more

Unhappy You have to pay it from your pocket

I don't know any residency program that pays or offers housing and accommodation to their residents! Please tell me if you know any program.

You have to pay that from you pocket.

I know that you have to pay for that! but the price, the proximity, the convenience and the benefits cannot be compared between when you are in the hospital residence and in a private residence!

For example, In Detroit where I have some experience, I know two programs which provide housing for like 700 $ a month , including a decent apartment with all the bills, the maintenance , small exercise room, playing room, parking, excellent safety (if you know what a dangerous neighborhood Detroit is), kitchen tools and within walking distance for the hospital .. any other housing with even near benefits would be over $1500 a month! whereas in New York, I know a program in Manhattan where you have to find your own apartment, and any apartment close to the program is above $2000!

See? it does make a difference even if you still pay for the hospital

Yes, you are right. Subsidized hospital in-house accommodation surely costs much less than private housing. I apologize, I forgot about that option. I thought you were saying that hospital pay for you the private rent
