Arrow Program Requirements, Step 1 Score or ECFMG Certificate?

I was just checking out the university requirements for residency. Many of them initially say that they require a step 1 score and then write that for IMG they require a valid ECFMG certificate.
I want to apply with step 1 score initially so can I apply to such programs?

Stop

If a program specifies that they need you to be ECFMG certified then you cannot apply for it with Step 1 Score only.

The mention of step 1 score only is usually concerning AMGs not IMGs.

All programs require ECFMG certificate. So I have to apply on 1 Sept and send them emails regarding date of my score release and put scores on automatic.
I was just wondering that would programs prefer relooking at applications that get completed by Oct or complete applications received in October?

cooper i have same situation like you

i am confused also because i will be ready in mid october

so can i apply for programs early september, then when ERAS update my status on late october , i will contact programs again and tell them that i am certified

i think the period of interview's from november -january

but i am confused and not sure if this will work , but it's better than wait for next match 2013 ( from october 2011 until start residency july 2013 this is 21 months )

No. Not all programs require you to be ECFMG certified by the time of application. Yes, they want you to be certified at the time of ranking (February) but not (September).
However, there are some programs that do require you to be ECFMG certified even at the time of application.

You will lose many chances, probably 70-80% of chances will be gone if your scores are delayed until October.

You will apply in October 2012, so that's 12 months delay not 23 months delay.
Also, remember that a complete profile (first time applicant) is better than a complete profile (second time applicant).
I discussed this in details here

Default Question

Hi, I wonder how this could affect my application for this year. I will have my Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS scores by September the first, but the ECFMG certificate will not be ready. Do you believe that this will affect my application? or the three scores ready is equivalent to be certified? Thanks

i am just going to apply this year and take my chances nothing is impossible its not worth it to waste an entire year just because i am a month late.worst come worst i can always go for the post scramble match or apply next year.i know that step taker wont agree with me and technically speaking he is right.but if u can afford go for it and there is something in the world called luck n prayers.

Hey cooper, I noticed you haven't been active for a while, i hope thats good news for you, im new to the forums so im hoping im doing this right and you'll get this message. I am in the exact same situation you were back then, same months and everything (twin in time). I will have everything ready to apply in mid oct under the exact same circumstances you described. Im asking you to inspire me and tell me to go for it, or to advice me, how did it go for you taking the chance of applying under those circumstances? did you match into a good program? would you do it again? would you have waited another year? I would be in your debt for helping me with this struggle.
