Why does it appear that medical school performance is important (more) than USMLE scores? I thought that it's not important for IMGs

This is a survey of program directors, when they answered the survey they were thinking of AMGs not IMGs. Medical school performance if very important for AMGs but not for IMGs. For IMGs the score is the super factor.

Everything other than the Medical School performance applies to IMG's. In the same degree too I think

Many IMGs apply to residency without MSPE and they do match. The above thing is mostly AMGs. Our MSPEs differ much about what AMGs have. Our MSPEs usually look like a modified radical LOR ;-)

Medical school performance and grades are important to both IMG AND AMG

PROGRM DIRECTORS look at what is your medical school (country, privet or governmental)

many factors contribute your application

kemoo what is the source of ur info?
everyone is saying they don't care about IMG medical school performance. usmle scores are most important. correct me if im wrong.....personally i think img medical school matters squat. Maybe good medical school performance will help someone with poor usmle scores (but even then, come on lol)
This is what a program director on SDN had to say:
"The less well known your medical school is, the more important USMLE's are. For IMG's and DO's, USMLE's (or perhaps COMLEX) scores become critical."

Who says that? I know students who failed some in medical school that matched and some who matched from really unknown schools in the Caribbean and elsewhere. The transcripts and medical school reputation barely matters at all. In fact two of them said the program directors didn't even look at their transcripts (Ofcourse I think most would take a glance). They both scored highly in the USMLE though.

Also, the criteria used in the original post refers to American graduates.
The most important things for IMGs are USMLE scores (Step 1 more important than Step 2), USCE, and US LoR, in that order in general. Those three can overcome anything else.
