Question Advantages and Disadvantages of a Prelim position

What are the disadvantages of taking up or rather just getting through a prelim position if you ultimately want to do internal medicine.
I have heard its more difficult to match in a PGY -1 categorical position in the next match as there would be some funding issues the institution might have? Is that true.?
I thought it would be an advantage in terms of clinical experience than having nothing.

Prelim position is considered as 1 year paid USCE. According to my experience with people who got prelim medicine, many of them were offered pgy2 positions in their programs as many pgy2s will leave to other specialties. Also when you reapply into the match you will definitly have advantage over others. I havent heard about funding issues recently. I inly read about it in old posts which in my opinion has no place in our current practice.
